ニュージーランドがホオジロザメの狩猟を禁止！

ENS(Environment News Service) World Newsは2006年12月1日に、ニュージーランドはWildlife条例に基づき200海里以内でのホオジロザメの狩猟を禁止したと報告した。

この禁止令は2007年4月から施行され、Conservation大臣のクリス・カーターは、「もし、故意にホオジロザメを狩猟した場合は、 Wildlife条例は最大の刑罰として25万NZドル(US$17万2000)の罰金と最大6カ月の投獄が課せられる。」と報告している。

the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Societyのカースティ・ノウルズ(Kirstie Knowles)は、1960年代か1990年までに9件の非致命的な鮫の攻撃が記録されているが、それはニュージーランドで雷により死亡するより少ないと言い、「国際的に、ホホジロザメはの歯、顎、およびヒレのために対象とされ、小さい顎さえ何千ドルで売られている。」とも報告している。
