映画『（５００）日のサマー』でも主人公をノックアウトさせるところで流れるキメの１曲。
彼女はまさに”決して消えない光”であり、
そして”キミの横で死ねるなんてサイコーに素敵だ”と、主人公の真情を述べるに相応しい
ラヴ・ソングとして扱われています。

基本的にスミスのシングルを順を追ってチョッとづつ更新してきましたが、
半年も放置してしまいました。
『（５００）日のサマー』の予告で久々に聴いたら、
ムクムクと湧き上がってきたので久しぶりの更新です。

リアル・タイムでは英ラフ・トレードはシングル・カットはしていないと思います。
９０年代初頭にサンディ・ショウを表紙に使ってシングル・カットされていた気がします・・
どうだったかな・・・

ヴァージニア・ウルフの著作と同タイトルのこの作品は、
チャート・アクションで好成績を上げることができなくて、
ジョニー・マーが、ラフ・トレードのサポートが足りない、（会社は）この曲が好きじゃない、
と、不満を漏らしたことが、楽曲の評価以上に知られています。

モリッシーは、確かこの曲について、
”束縛や親の庇護から放たれ、社会に出て、自分の好きなようにやる奴の話”　という
コメントをしていましたね。

ウィリアム・フィッシャーの物語、『Billy Liar』（キース・ウォーターハウス著）の
お話を下敷きにしているらしいです。

カップリングには『Please Please Please Let Me get What I Want』
という好選曲のシングルでした。

こんな詩のついた曲を美しい音色のギターとモリッシーの腰フリフリとセットで
聴かされる＆見せられる（いや、魅せられる、か？）
・・・
まさに”I'm miserable now”（私は今、惨めです）そのもの。

カップリング・ナンバーは『Suffer Little Children』
ジャケットの写真は現在も活躍中の女優、ヴィヴ・ニコルソンです。
