But "T" is a problem for some people.
Because they're thinking ¤«¤Ê.
So they go "¥Á¡¼".

The same as "The" .
For some people it's gonna be "¥¸¡¼"

Because it's based on the ¤«¤Ê.
So I think people have to forget ¤«¤Ê./ And think about sound.

I did a little Italian.

So I'm listening Italian for 2 days .
Then I go back to Russian, my Russian is better. / Hm.

So I write on my blog I say I think that if you're studying language A
maybe in Japan people have been studying English
and they try and don't think getting any better
and it's just the same thing over and over again.
Nothing is happening.

They've hit a plateau, they've hit the ceiling.
So those people should study another language. / Hmm.
Study Spanish.

Spanish pronunciation is actually not so difficult for Japanese people.
It's easier than French, right?

Study Spanish./ What you study I don't know, but it's quite hard.

Yeah, so, now the brain has something new to do. / Hmm.
So you create some new activity in the brain.

But it still has to do with language learning.

And if you then study Spanish for a month a week, whatever,
you go back to English your brain will be better.

Your brain will be more fit more flexible.
You'll hear things that you didn't hear before.

You'll notice things that you didn't notice before.

The brain is its own thing.

Things have happen there that you don't know .
And all of a sudden you go back to English let's say,
in my case Russian, I hear it better.

I noticed the endings of the nouns, the endings of the verbs
I noticed things that I didn't notice before.

I hear it more clearly. / OK.
I see it more clearly.
Because the brain has been refreshed ./ Hmm.
So./ Reshuffled.
That's right.

So what I say is I mean people are not gonna do this
I don't want to scare people who are having enough trouble with English
that I'm gonna say go learn Spanish.

People who are willing to do this.
I think we'll find it works and on my blog.

And normally I get 3 comments.

in another words, it's a common thing.

So I just think it's interesting.
Because we think when you're learning English ,
you're learning something
You're gonna learn.
You're not learning.

What you doing is you're helping your brain
notice, you're helping your brain observe, get used to .
Then the brain will help you speak.

And not any logic or explanations are any kind of academic thing.

But you know it's very interesting.
Because I read a book.
Very interesting book it's called "The Mind and The Brain".

And some people have what they called "obsessive compossive disorder".
Have you ever heard of obsessive compossive disorder.

Some people think they have to wash their hands every 5 minutes.
Have to wash my hands every 5 minutes.

They obsessive.
And sometimes they treat this with drugs.

But in this book this professor treats it by explaining.
The blain is separate from your will.

So with your will and your determination.
You can influence what's happening in your brain.

Because the brain is telling you to wash your hands every 5 minutes.
You don't need to wash your hans every 5 minutes.
So once you recognize that you have power over your brain
you'll start to be able to resist what a brain is telling you to do.

And so you gradually ,gradually, train the brain to stop telling you
to wash your hands.

So it's the same with language learn.

So what's the most difficult part of learning English for Japanese people?
And to Japanese people.
What do you think?

Well, that's a very interesting question.
What is the most difficult part?
I think the most difficult part is in the attitude of the learner.¡¿Hmm.

Because Japan has been historically sort of an isolated culture.
It's an island./ Huh, uh.

OK? Now, they have had the cultural influence from China
from Korea then all over the last 50 years from Europe
and United states and so far.
But still fundamentally it's very much an island.¡¡/¡¡Huh,uh.

So I think a lot of Japanese people are convinced
that they can not learn.

I think they have an attitude that they will not be able to speak fluently.
If you live in Singapore, if you live in Sweden or Holland.
It's just normal.

They use, speak to three languages.
Just normal.
It's just not a big deal.

If you live in Japan, and you speak a second language.
Just like wow! Wow!

Yes. True. It's true.

So I think there is an attitude difference between Japan at one end.
Singapore or Sweden where little place
to two languages happening is normal.

So I think that's perhaps a big obstacle.

I think the other obstacle the Japanese people have is "¤«¤Ê".
Because if you were conditioned to think
that all sounds are written in syllables./ Right.

I mean a Japanese person from childhood girls
up hearing Japanese OK?

Then they go to school.

So now, you come to a languages just which is not with a writing system
is not based on syllables the writing system is based on letters.
So that is the better be problem.

And so I think that the Japanese learner has to forget ¤«¤Ê.
The worst thing is to use ¤«¤Ê to describe the phonetics of English.
That's terrible.
Terrible.
We have to get away from that.

We, we focused Steve a year or two ago and I'm refreshing my brain here.

But if someone just went to link
and just chose a language they wanted to speak.
Whether Japanese person might learn English or Chinese

And they just started fresh from link.
That's exactly what should be with you know,
without the attitude of not knowing had a learning
second language without the ¤«¤Ê in your, in your head there.

You just want a link for example.
And you just said I wanna learn let's see from 10 languages
which language do I wanna learn now.

And you press that you just kinda start fresh .
You maybe that sort of the way one can go about learning a language.

Instead of sort of having that history of you know,
especially when your Japanese you have that sort of a small moment in
your life .

When you're in junior high and high school.
You were taught English from that
Japanese professor or Japanese teacher.

So it makes difficult to kinda transform yourself
to become of this white blank canvas.
