【A shot given to my baby son.】

Yesterday, as I had had a booking to visit a doctor's office, my 5-month-old baby was given a shot (注射) of BCG. The term means Bacillus Calmette-Guérin in French as I just took a look at the Web. It refers to a vaccine to prevent tuberculosis (結核).  

 
When I visited the clinic, thanks to a reservation, I didn't have to wait for a long time.

Who had a shot was the second-baby son, but I hardly remembered what the BCG shot looked like when my first son had been given before. This time when I saw it, it was like a stamp with several needles inside the circle shape, which is different from an ordinal injector (注射器).  The doctor pressed the hanko-looking shot on his left arm. (その医者ははんこみたいな注射＝BCGをしました。)

It was relieved that my baby barely cried, and in seconds, he forgot it hurt.

After some rest, we left the hospital and picked up my first son to the kindergarten.

To be honest, I had forgotten that the vaccine of BCG must be shot "until a baby is 6-month old" from 3-month old. How I came to my mind was a doctor mentioned me the other day, when I visited the hospital by another errand. 
 
So I should pay attention to which shots we should take and until when. Otherwise, we have to pay money because we're too late.

For your information....About BCG vacctine and why babies?

 

The effectiveness has been approved to prevent tuberculosis among babies and infants. A source says that its duration is 15 years. By contrast, that for adults depends which country you live in, so protective effect for adults is uncertain.

Public Health Nurse explained the BCG and 三種混合 to me right after my daughter left the hospital.

It was kind that your hospital gave information about preventive injections. I might have heard some in a city office as the same time when I submitted a birth report of my son. But there were many thing to do, so when to shot was totally forgot. We should not miss them and it's better to do as soon as possible.
