2008年2月27日 さてさて、ヌアクショットでダクラからヌアディブまで一緒の車で移動したジジとあったので、ヌアクショットからセネガル北部の町、サン・ルイまで一緒の車に乗ることに。 さっ、モーリタニアは終わり。セネガルのスタートだ！！ さて、俺らはヌアクショットから国境までタクシーで移動し、モーリタニアを抜け、国境を越え、セネガルに入った。そして、タクシーを変えサン・ルイまで。 そして、サン・ルイ到着。まずジジの泊まるホテルに行き、彼が自分の分を払った後、俺らが泊まる場所に。ここではカウチサーフィンで、寝る場所をあった。 そして俺らが泊まる場所に到着。さて、もちろんドライバーが支払いを要求してくる。でも3人分払えと言ってくる。いや、2人だし。ドライバーによるとジジが払ってないからとの事。いや、俺らジジが払うの見たし。平行線が続く中、CSのホストがヘルプに出てきてくれる。ありがたい。 そして彼に説明を。ちゃんとは覚えてないんだけど、確か3000フランの支払いのところ、俺らが持ってたのは10000フラン札のみで、ドライバーはお釣りを持っていない。そこで、ホストの彼が10000フランを持って近くの店に両替へ。そして、帰ってきてドライバーに支払いをし、ドライバーは去った。幾ら払ったかは見なかったけど。でも、とにかく彼のおかげで片がついた。礼をいい、おつりを貰おうとしたところ、おつりはまだ店にあるという。たった100mだし、『じゃあ取りに行こう』というと、彼がいや最初にバックを置いて、後で行こうという。どうせ、夕食食べに出るんだからと。OK。でも彼の態度から、なんとなく疑問を抱き始めてた。。嘘をついていると。。うーん、気のせいだ。気にしない、気にしない。 彼の家に入ると、元々いわれてたとおり、今回寝る場所は床の上。まぁ地面なんだけど。オレはまぁ問題はないんだけど。彼の家じゃなかったら。彼が嘘をついているという風に思い始めてたので、それがちょっといやだなぁ、と思い始めてた。。でも、やっぱ違うかもしれないし、もう少し様子を見ることに。 そして夕食に出かけるが、バックを彼の家に置いておく事にすら不安を感じた。CSのホストにこんなことを感じたことは無かったが。。そのとき、お店の前を通ったから、『あぁ、今おつり貰ってこうか』というと、いや後にしよう、という。帰りに貰おうと。日も沈み暗くなり始めてのもあり、夕食の後だと店が閉まってるんじゃないかと心配に。でも、まだ様子を見よう。 夕食後、戻ってきてみると店はまだ開いているので行ってみる。 まず、彼らフランス語で話します。俺らはわかりません。旅に必要なレベルだけ。ジヨンの方が分かります。 そこでホスト彼が店でおつりを俺らに渡すように言います。店員が7000フラン手に取ると、ホストの彼が『違う。2000だけだ。5000は後でだ』といいます。何も分からないと思ったんでしょう。いや、俺はわかりませんでした。でもジヨンは分かりました。スペイン語も知ってる分、オレより知ってるのです。とにかく、その後店から出た後、ジヨンがオレのところに来てその事実を告げます。。なので、彼の家には泊まらないことを決めました。例えそれが彼女の勘違いだったとしても、そうやって理解してしまった以上、もう彼を信用できません。。 なので、彼の家に戻った後、俺達はちょっと今日はタクシーでの疲れがひどいから、ベッドで寝て回復して、また後でここに来るよ、と言い彼の家を出てジジが泊まってるホテルへと移動。チェックイン後、念のためバックも調べてみましたが、よかった、全部あった。 そして、二度と彼に電話しませんでした。 当時、カウチサーフィンを使い始めて4ヶ月で初めての悪い経験。基本的に皆、すげーいい人達ばかり！！だから、CSは使い続けます！！ジヨンも同意見でした。 こんなことが二度と起こりませんように。。 |

27/2/2008 Well well, in Nouackchott, we met Gigi again who took a same car from Dakhla to Noudhibou. And, we took a car together from Nouackchott to Saint-Louis where is the town North of Senegal. So, we finished Mauritania. Then, started Senegal!! Ok, so we took a taxi from Nouackchott to border. Then, we got out of Mauritania, crossed border, then entered Senegal, then changed taxi to Saint-Louis. Then, we arrived Saint-Louis. At first, we went to hotel where Gigi gonna stay. There, he paid his. Then, we've been to the place where we gonna stay. We got a couch to crash through Couchsurfing. Then, we arrived the place. Then, driver asked to pay, of course, but he asked us to pay for 3 people. There were only 2. Driver claimed that Gigi didn't pay. But we saw he paid. And, it went on for a while and our CS host came out to help us. Thank god!! So we explained to him. I don't remember well but I thought what we should pay is 3000franc and what we had is just 10000franc and driver didn't have a change for that anyway. So, he grabbed our 10000franc, and went to the shop nearby to change. So, he came back and paid to driver then driver went away. I didn't see how much he paid though. Anyway, thanks with help we could finish that. We said thanks to him. And, asked the change which supposed to give back to us. Well then, he said he left it in the shop where he changed. It was just 100m away so we said "ok, let's go to pick it up". But he told us no we can go there later. We can leave our backpack first. Then we will go to eat out so we can pickup our money then.. Ok. But we already started to have some suspicion with him because of his attitude.. We got a feeling that he's lying.. Well, maybe not. Just leave it. Then, we got into his house. Well, as we were told that our couch that time was actually the floor. Well, it's on the ground. At least, I didn't have a problem. If it's not his home. Because of our feeling that he's lying made us feeling bit uncomfortable with it.. But again, we let it go and decided to see how it gonna end. So, we went to eat out. Actually, we even worried about our backpacks.. I never felt that feeling with CS host but this time.. Then, we just walked in front of the shop so we just said "oh, we can pickup our change now" but he told us not now. When we would come back, we could pick it up. I was kind of worried because it was already after sunset, so it was getting darker and darker. So, maybe it would be closed when we would come back after dinner. Well, but we let it go again. After dinner, we came back. And the shop was still open. So, we went there. Ok, at first, they speak French. And, we don't know French. Just what necessary to travel. Ji Yeon knows better. Ok then, our host asked at the shop to give us change. And, shop staff picked 7000franc but then, our host said to him, "no. only 2000. Keep 5000 now. Later." He thought we didn't understand nothing. Ok, I didn't but Ji Yeon did. She was better because she knew Spanish too. Anyway, after we walked out, Ji Yeon came to talk to me and told that fact.. So then, we decided not to stay his home. Even it was her misundering, but we understood that way so we couldn't trust him anymore.. So, as soon as we got back to his place, we just told him that we were too tired from the long taxi ride so we'd better to take a rest on the bed today to regain some energy, then we can come back here later. So, we left his place, been to the hotel where Gigi were staying. So, we checked in, then checked our backpack just in case and thank god, everything was there. Anyway, never called him again. I had been using CouchSurfing for about 4months and it was the first time to have bad experience through this. Basically, they're so amazing!! So, I'm not gonna give up to CS!! And, Ji Yeon neither. I hope it won't happen again!! |

At first, I was actually concerning to come to Mauritania. To tell you the truth, short time before coming here, I heard there had been armed group activity there. And, incident of killing French tourists. And those event causes that even that famous event, Dakar Rully was called off! For your info, it was the first time that entire route of Dakar rully was called off. I had been thinking about to go across the Sahara desert so Mauritania was must go place so I was really concerning about it. To be honest, I was even thinking about to give up that Sahara cross journey. But as I kept researching about it, I could see that there were some histrical background those incident so that victim was French tourist. And, didn't seems like common place to go, and they even resisted against them. And, armed group activity was far away from where I had been planned to go, and there were no information that indicate a places I had been planned to go will be the problem. And evn more, I had a live infomation from other traveller who were travelling around where we would go. And had information from local people and foreigners who had been living the place as well. We had a lot of reasearch and looked for as much infomation as we could get. And took those all in the consideration and talked and decided to go there. Couchsurfing was really useful at that time. There are rules at the place where called dangerous place. Like, you cannot go there or so. What important is, listening infomation from local people vvveeerrryyy carefully. And, not just take that, do some research by yourself. And, the hunch. Follow your instict. That's important too. We acted as we told there. Of course, I don't wanna die. If there are somebody who's been worried because of this article. But I wrote even about this kind this time because I wanted you to know that I'm not travelling around without thinking, going anywhere as I want to. I want you to know that I'm doing research by myself and picking up carefully where to go if there's some risk there. So, I do not want you to worry about me. Instead, I want you to feel more relieved that I'm doing lots of thing for my travel and safety. That's what I meant. Well, Mauritania is about to the end. Go down South. Maralia which I was considering about always. We checked with some people in every places and finally I have been advised that more Southern than here has a possibility of malaria so you better to be carefull. Well then, finally, those goods againt malaria would be useful. What I had been bringing was insect repellent on my skin(Ultrathon), spray type of insect repellent on a clothes(Permethrin), and mosquite net. Didn't brought malarian pill because I've heard side-effect of malarian tablet is bad.. I had concerned about this a little too but broght the best I've find at that time instead!! For not to rely on the tablet. Well, those have some problems too though.. For example, if I eat meal by hand, before eating I have to wash my hand really really well every time so it would be kind of harmful on the body.. |

Well, my camera was broken thanks to the Sahara desert. So there won't be any photo. But I found a photos that Ji Yeon gave me so I'll upload that!! Well then, there were no photo regarding this article so enjoy just text. 23-27/02/2008 Well, after back from the Sahara desert, we just chill out together with Hassan in the hotel who arranged Sahara desert tour in Atar. 24th as well. On 25th, moved to the capital city, Nouackchott. By grand taxi as usual. 7 people in the car including driver. Then arrived. Actually, I'm not sure where we stayed here. . It's been 1 and half a year.. Mmm.. Have to be back on the Live Update.. But if I remember correctly.. We stayed at Korean's house who we have been introduced by Korean family who we met in Nouadhibou where is the town in North part of Mauritania. We got couch to crash on here on CouchSurfing but Ji Yeon is Korean and we don't need to keep having a doubt with them lot so we should have been there. If not, but we spent quite a lot of time in there house everyday. Based on the premise of that I remember correctly, we ate Korean food, relaxed in the Korean family's house. Had a Korean stype of Sushi, and the rices which is similar to ours so it reminds little bit of japanese food. Well, it didn't gave me a homesick and never had been though. One thing I have to confess is that the Korean chopstic was bit difficult to use. I couldn't get used to that flat chopstics. Well, it's all habituation though. Ji Yeon had been spending her time to watch Korean TV, searching for a flight, call to friends by Skype. And, I had been spending my time to look for a flight, make a skype call regarding change on my Round the World ticket. We both spent long time in front of the computer for internet, I guess. And, I remember that it was comfortable to compare with the places we had been those days.. I think.. We had been in Nouackchott more or less 3 days. Met and talked with Natacha & her friend who we have been contacted through CouchSurfing and exchanging some messages. Don't remember which program they were from (I think it was Peace Corps) but they were all there for volunteer activities in Mauritania. There were 4 or 5 people and each of them came from different countries. Well well, there was one thing we had to done in Nouackchott. Withdraw some money. Travel in Mauritania was about the end but we didn't have enough money to go to next country so we have to get Mauritanian money. And, this counry, Mauritania, never had ATM before January or summer 2007. Even one. But it was finally intalled!! And, it's here!! One of the bank in this capital city, Nouackchott!! So, let's go to downtown to get some money!! But, as we looked for the country's unique ATM but we couldn't find. Then, we asked at wherever it was but at the bank. And then.. There was ATM but it was broken and never repaired.(Well, this is actually confirmed bit later but we understood that way then and we were right..） Well... The ATM, which has been long waited but broken and it maybe never come back.. So, no ATM? What should we do? So, we had to count on classic way. Exchange Traveller's check in the bank. It wasn's efficient and took bit long time.. After that, we just relaxed and took some rest for our upcoming journey. |

さて、この間のサハラ砂漠でカメラが壊れました。なので、写真なしで。と、思っていましたが、一緒に旅をしていたジヨンがくれた写真もあるのでそれをアップ、する予定でしたが、この記事に関する写真は一枚もないので今回は写真なしです。 2008年2月23-27日 さて、サハラ砂漠から戻った後は、アタールの町で今回のサハラ砂漠のツアーの手配をやってくれた、宿泊中のホテルのハッサンと色々話したりして過ごし、翌日24日もそれでゆっくり。 翌25日、首都のヌアクショットに移動。いつものようにグランドタクシーに運転手込みで7人で乗り、到着。 ここでは実はどこに泊まったのかがうろ覚え。。流石に1年半も前のことだと。。うーん、やっぱLIVEアップデートに戻さないと。。 でも、記憶が確かなら。。モーリタニア北部の町、ヌアディブで会った韓国人の親子、その人たちが紹介してくれた韓国人の家に泊まっていたはず。ここでもカウチサーフィンでカウチを提供してくれた人はいたけど、ジヨンは韓国人だし、そのほうが信用できるしで、そこに泊まったはず。。そうじゃなかったとしたら、でも相当な時間を彼らの家で過ごし、毎日入り浸ってたことになる。 その前提で話を進めると、その韓国人の親子の家で毎日、韓国食をいただき、ゆっくりしてました。韓国流の寿司とかも出てきたし、白ご飯とかも出てきて中々懐かしい感じもしたかな。でも、ホームシックとかには一切ならなかったし、なってなかったけど。一つ言うと、韓国の箸は使いにくかったかな？平べったくてなんか馴染めなかった。まぁ、なれなんだろうけど。 ジヨンは韓国のTVをみてたり、フライトを探したり、スカイプで友達に電話してたり。オレもフライトを探したり、確か世界一周航空券の変更の件とかでスカイプで電話してたりして、PCの前でインターネットして過ごすことが多かったかな？二人とも。 流石にそれまでの場所と比べて快適だったことを覚えてるなぁ、って、気がする。 ヌアクショットには3日ほど居たと思う。カウチサーフィンで知り合って、メッセージの交換をしていたナターシャとその友達と会って話をしにいったりした。どのプログラムで来ていたかは忘れたけど（確かピースコープ）、彼らはモーリタニアにボランティア活動に来ていた。その場だけで4，5人いたけど、色んな国から来てた。 また、ヌアクショットでやらなければいけない最優先事項があった。それがお金を引き出すこと。モーリタニアはもうすぐ終わりというところだったけど、どうにも次の国に行くまでの金が足りない。。なので、モーリタニアのお金を下ろさないといけない羽目に。。 さて、このモーリタニアという国、実は2007年の1月だか夏だか位までATMというものが存在しなかった。国に一つとしてなかった。しかし、たった一台だけどATMがようやく入ったのだ。それがここ首都のヌアクショットにある銀行のどれかにある。ということで、お金を下ろすためにいざ市街に。 しかし、探せど探せどATMは見つからない。なので、どこぞの銀行だかで聞いてみたところ。。 ATMはあったけど、壊れちゃって、修理もせずそのままだ。（ニュアンスと後付けの情報だけど。。） ということ。。。ようやく入ったATM、故障し復旧のめどはなさそうだ。。 さて、ATMがないとなれば、それじゃあ仕方ない。もうちょい以前の方法。ということで、トラベラーズチェックを銀行にて両替。効率悪く、終わるまでに結構時間がかかったなぁ。 後は、少しゆっくりとし、これからの旅に備えた。 モーリタニアに来るのは最初は正直ためらっていた。実を言うと行くちょっと前に、武装集団の活動が活発だったり、フランス人観光客が殺されたり、そういう事件もあったせいか、あの有名なダカールラリーが中止になったりしたからだ。ちなみにダカールラリーの全工程中止は初めてだったそう。サハラ砂漠縦断とかを考えていたからモーリタニアは確実に通るルートになっていたから、聞いたときは本当に迷った。正直、本当に行くの辞めようかとも思った。でも、調べていくうちに殺されたのがフランス人観光客だったことは歴史的な背景もあったし、居た場所があまり行くことが考えられない場所だったこと、抵抗をしたりしたなどの情報、武装集団に関しては行く予定の場所からは離れた場所で、過去を振り返ってもその場所がメインで、行く予定の場所は特に問題になったという情報はなかったことに加え、その付近を旅している人たちからの生の情報、現地に住んでいる現地人・外国人の人たちから集められるだけの情報を集め、色々検討を重ねた結果行くことにした国だった。この時は本当にカウチサーフィンのサイトがとても役に立った。 危険だといわれる場所にも、大抵はルールがあり、どこには行ってはいけないなど、地元の人たちの情報によーーーく耳を傾けることが大切だという。それに、それを鵜呑みにせず自分でもできる限りのリサーチをする。あとは、そういうことに対する勘も大切だという。 この時は、本当にその通りに行動した。勿論、死にたくなんかないからね。 この記事を見て心配してくれた人が居たらありがとう。でも、今回この事まであえて書いたのは、俺が何も考えず、自由気ままに行きたいところに行ってるわけじゃなく、危険があるところでは自分でできる限り色々調べて、ちゃんと調べた上で行く場所を選んでいるということを分かっておいて欲しいからあえて書きました。だから心配をするのではなく、逆にこうやって色々やっているんだということを分かって安心をして欲しい。そういう意味を込めて書きました。 そしてモーリタニアも終わる。更に南下だ。ずっと気にしていたマラリア。現地で毎回毎回色んな人たちに確認していたが、ここでようやくここより南はマラリアの可能性があるからちゃんと気をつけたほうがいいとのアドバイスをもらった。ということで、ようやくずっと持っていたマラリア対策の道具が役に立つときが。持っていたものは、体に塗る虫除けクリーム（Ultrathon)、服につける虫除けスプレーのペルメソリン（Permethrin）、及び蚊帳だ。マラリア対策のピルは持ってこなかった。副作用が結構きついらしい。これもまあまあ迷ったが、その代わりにスプレー、クリーム共にその当時分かりえた最高であろうものを持ってきた。ピルに頼らなくていいように。そのかわり、それもそれで色々あるんだが。例えばメシを手で食おうとしたら、石鹸で毎回毎回とてもきちんと落としきらない限り体に相当な害を及ぼすほど有毒なものだからだそうだ。。 |
