Crisis, what crisis? Berlusconi holds fresh bunga bunga party as Italian economy teeters on the brink

Controversial prime minister Silvio Berlusconi hosted one of his infamous 'bunga bunga' parties earlier this week, Italian media claimed today.
Berlusconi, 74, is embroiled in allegations that dozens of showgirls were paid to attend the bunga bunga parties - which is said to refer to a crude after dinner sex act - at his luxury villa.
He is currently facing a charge of of having sex with an underage prostitute after it emerged one of the guests at the parties held last year was at the time just 17 years old.
The new allegations came just hours before Berlusconi was due to give or make or break speech to the Italian parliament in an attempt to calm jitters over the current economic crisis.
Italy - which is the third largest economy in the Eurozone is facing a financial meltdown much the same as its neighbours across the Mediterranean Greece.
Italy has an estimated national debt of around £1.1trillion, which equates to 103.7 per cent

That compares to Greece’s national debt of £220billion – around 158 per cent of its GDP – and the UK’s debts of £650billion or 47.2 per cent of GDP.

Only last month cuts of almost £40billion were announced by Rome as part of an austerity package but many economists think they do not go far enough and further measures are needed - including Berlusconi's resignation.
According to today's Italian media reports 20 women were seen entering Berlusconi's villa at Arcore last Sunday in a fleet of cars with guests not leaving until 2am.
The women are said to have 'used more caution' than normal when entering the villa so as not to attract attention although the identity of the women was not known.
Prosecutors in Milan claim that 33 women were paid to attend the bunga bunga parties hosted by Berlusconi over a period of time between September 2009 and March 2010.
Besides the sex charge which centres on Moroccan born belly dancer Karima El Mahroug, the media tycoon turned politician is also accused of abuse of office as he used his position to secure the release of Miss El Mahroug - also known as Ruby the Heartstealer - from police custody.

She had been held after being arrested for a 3,000 Euro theft and Berlusconi is said to have called Milan police and ordered her release by wrongly claiming she was related to then Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and she should be freed to avoid a diplomatic incident.
In Italy the age of consent is 14 but paying a woman under 18 for sex is seen as prostitution with a minor and punishable by up to three years in jail while abuse of office carries a maximum 12 year term.
The trial has been adjourned until after the summer and today no-one was available to comment on the new claims against Berlusconi regarding the most recent bunga bunga party.
He has always insisted the events were 'convivial dinners' where the only things that happened were 'food, chatter and dancing' but two guests have come forward to say they were left 'shocked' by the debauched scenes.
Prosecutors allege the female guests dressed as nurses and police officers and carried out erotic dances for Berlusconi with some even being paid to indulge in lesbian sex.
Besides the sex case billionaire Berlusconi's trial for perverting the course of justice also resumes on Monday at the same court building in Milan.
