Brief Explanation of "Shichi-go-san"

I must apologise for my absence of explanation of "Shichi-go-san" mentioned in a posting referring to my first drawing project. I completely forgot to give any explanation of this meaning, may be because I've lived in Japan for so long now and take it for granted that people know.

"Shichi-go-san" is a Shinto (a Japanese religion) ritual and takes place on November 15, or on the closest weekend (or thereabouts). "Shichi-go-san" literally means "Seven Five Three". This refers to the age of the children, i.e., girls of age three and seven and boys of age three and five. Children of these ages are dressed up in kimonos, visit a Shinto Shrine, and their good health and growth is prayed for. During around this time you often see children out and about, dressed up in their very cute looking kimonos, either on their way to the Shrine, on their way home, or even just getting their photo taken!

I think Japanese people really suit a kimono, and children just look adorable in them. Hence, I decided to draw a "Shichi-go-san" picture as my first project.

How to Add a Comment to an Article

The following is some basic instructions for using this blog. Since this blog is a Japanese-based blog, all the fundamental operations require a certain amount of Japanese literacy. Hence, I have decided to have this section where you can receive guidance in English and also ask questions via the Comment section (" コメント " in Japanese). In order to ask questions via the Comment (コメント) function you first need to know how to add a comment to a posting (i.e., an article).

As shown in the example in the first image above, below each article there are the Japanese characters "コメント". This is the Japanese word for "Comment". Upon selecting this word, a box appears for inserting your comments as shown in the second image above. Upon inserting your comments in this box, please select the button labled "投稿", which is the Japanese word for "Register" or "Contribute" (your comments). This completes the process of adding your comments.
