　アメリカ連邦下院による金融安定化法案の否決は国内外に大きな衝撃を与えました。

　In Muncie,Indiana,today. Congressman Mike Pence told his fellow Hoosieres why he voted against the $700 billion economic stabilization bill.

　「It was based on my philosophical objection.」

　Judging from the phone calls to Pence's office running 9 to 1 against the bill that was the popular decision.

　「I didn't think it needed to be rushed. It's taken a long time for us to get in this position. I think we need to take the time to back up.」

　Public interest and frankly opposition to this bill,whatever you want to call it,has been so intense the "Write Your Repressntative" feature of the House of Repressentatives website has been so jammed it's threatened to bring down the entire House of Repressentatives website.

　The vote began at 1:26 this afternoon.

「This is a 15-minute vote.」

That 15-minute vote stretched to 40 minutes as Democratic and Republican leaders who wanted to pass the bill quickly saw the votes were not there and kept the clock running,trying to twist arms to little arms to little avail.

　「The motion is not adopted.」

60% of the Democrats voted for the bill.

66% of the Republicans voted against it.

　「Today,the Repubican Party failed to protect the American people from financial crisis and tragically,American people are going to pay the price for it.」

　「The bill is a big priority for President Bush. Of the 19 House members from Bush's home state of Texas,only four voted for the bill,Charlie,15 voted against it.」

　だが結局40分に延びた。賛成票が伸びないため可決を目指す両党の幹部は時間をかけて説得に努めたが無駄だった。

　「共和党はアメリカ国民を金融危機から守れませんでした。苦しむのは国民です。」

　「ブッシュ大統領の地元テキサス州の下院議員は19人。賛成は4人だけで 15人が反対票を入れた。」
