The world today is facing an energy crisis resulting from insufficient reserves or limited growth, for a variety of reasons, in production of the conventional energy sources---coal, oil, gas, and hydroelectric power.
Even with static or negative population growth, world requirements of electrical energy will almost certainly continue to grow. Experience has already shown that nuclear power is a safe, economic and reliable sorce of electrical energy.
In the short to medium term, therefore, we believe the energy gap can only be filled by an extensive world program of nuclear power development.

<Hints>

The importance of mechanics in the preparation of young engineers for work in specialized fields cannot be overemphasized. The demand from industry is more and more for young men who are soundly grounded in their fundamental subjects rather than for those with specialized training. There is good reason for this trend:
The industrial engineer is continually being confronted with new problems, which do not always yield to routine methods of solution. The man who can successfully cope with such problems must have a sound understanding of the fundamental principles that apply and be familior with various general methods of attack rather than proficient in the use of any one.

<Hints>

We like to see the wheels go round, but also we like to know what is moving them---not simply for the pure knowledge, but so that we may make them go round faster. In this way the process leads us from the events in the external world over which we want control back to the scientific laws by which they can be understood, when the scientific laws are really known, then the events we watched going round, are at our mercy. They process has led to some of the greatest discoveries in the history of science.
