自分がポルテーニャ（ブエノスアイレスの住人）に近づきつつある
と確信する瞬間。
The moments when I noticed myself almost becoming a porteňa (resident of Buenos Aires):

１．コレクティーボ（バス）の色を見ただけで、どのラインか番号がわかった瞬間。

２．夜、無意識に、路上の犬の糞をすばやくよけた瞬間。

３．どんなに他の飲み物がほしくても、ミロンガでは水を注文する時。

４．ミロンガの後どんなに疲れていても、タクシーでなくコレクティーボに乗って帰る日。

５．路上で突然デモが始まっても、「なーんだ、またか」と、興味もわかない時。

６．スブテ（地下鉄）が途中の駅で突然止まり、「お客は降りてくださーい」と
全員降ろされ、しばらく運休になっても、驚きもしなくなったとき。

７．ミロンガに外国人のお客がたくさん来たときに、その中に混ざることなく、
現地のミロンゲロに「ヌエボちゃん、あなたはもう外国人じゃないじゃん」と、
現地人に分類されたとき。

Little Present from Iguazu---イグアスの滝のお土産。

”ポルテーニョケチケチ旅行その１：メンドーサ”を書き終わらないうちに、
”その２：イグアスの滝”へ行ってきました。
その１を書き続ける前にちょっと先に書きたいことが・・・・。

長時間バスに揺られて帰ってきたその日から、
胃がちくちく痛くなり、「つかれてるのかな−」
と思いつつ、再びタンゴ生活をすごしていたところ、
４日たっても回復しませんでした。
しかもひどい腹痛と下痢が始まり、
仕方なく病院へ・・・・・。

運良く、お医者さまがいらしたので、
見ていただきました。ウイルスか菌からくる
胃腸炎らしい・・・。

生水は飲んでいなかったのですが、
イグアスの滝でボートに乗って滝に打たれる、
オプショナルツアーへ行った事や、
ブラジルに入国できなかった（前回の記事参考）おかげで
ホテルの清潔とは言いがたいプールで
泳いでいたこととか、
ちょっと思い当たることが・・・・。

結局、注射を打ってもらってからなんとか
眠れるくらいまで痛みはおさまりました。

みなさん、海外旅行保険は必須です。
旅行中何があるかわかりませんから。
ほんとに海外旅行保険入っててよかった！！

病院へ行く際に心配してついてきてくれた
現地の友達に感謝。
アルゼンチン人はとても優しく、心配してくれる
いい人が多いです。

Adventuras Extrañas---国境冷汗体験

今日はですね、アルゼンチンからブラジルへ入国しようとしたのですが、
（そうでーす！ポルテーニョ流ケチケチ旅行２の最中です）
結局国境を超えることはできませんでした。
日本人はブラジル入国にはビザが必要なんですが、
ちょっとしたトラブルでとらなかったのです。

Well, today, I tried to get into Brasil from Argeitina
(yes! I am on another trip de porteño!)
but I couldn´t cross the border
because I didn´t have a visa from Brasilian consulate.

日本人はビザ必要と聞いてはいたのですが、
旅行代理店の人に、観光ツアーで即日戻るなら、必要ない、
とかいう情報を聞かされていたのを
信じていたのでした。
いまさら文句をいっても仕方ないし、もう遅いですが・・・。
国境にて、パスポートに出国スタンプ（アルゼンチン）を押してもらった後、
国境線にて５分ばかりうろうろし、
（高速道路の料金所のようなブースが並んでいる）
しばらくしてわかったことは、ビザが絶対必要で、
ほしいなら、一人につきアルゼンチンペソで３６０払え、ということでした。
（アメリカドルで１２０ドル、日本円で、１万４千円くらい？）
はああああ？
高いよーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
まじで？？？
３６０ペソって、ここではどんなに価値があるかわかります？？
（日本円で４万以上の価値だとおもう）
たった、数時間観光するだけのために払うような価値があるのか？
同じお金があったら、わたしなら、あの高級タンゴ靴を買う（笑）。

というわけで、
「そんな金払えん！ブラジル行かなくていいから、今日はアルゼンチンに戻してくれ！」
と、訴え、再び、隣のブースへ戻り、
パスポートに入国スタンプ「Entrada」を押してもらったのでした。


I knew I needed a visa to go there,
but my travel agency had told me there should be no problem
if I just visit and come back on the same day in a tour....
well....cannot complain, and too late.
They stamped my passport out
but physically I stayed on that border for 5 minutes.
(in front of the booth just like a highway ticket booth)
They said it costs 360 Argentinian pesos (US$120)just getting a visa!!!
Unbelievable! (can you imagine how valuable this amount of money is here??)
Not worth going there for a couple hours of sight-seeing!!
I´d rather buy another pair of tango shoes at the fancy tango shoe store
with that money! ( I know I am soooo bad!)
So I told them I am not going to Brasil and
I want to go back Argentine side.
Then they stamped "entrada" again on the same page.

これって、政治外交の問題だと思う・・・。
アルゼンチン人や、そのほかの南アメリカの国籍の人は、
ビザが必要ないのです。
しかも、何に関しても、国籍によって、金額にランクをつけてる・・・。
（たとえば、ある国立公園の入園料は、南アメリカ以外の外国人は＄３０、アルゼンチン人＄１２、
近所に住む人は＄３とか）

It´s politics, huh??
They don´t charge or require any visa for other latino Americans.

まあ、そんなわけで、今日は、ホテルに戻り、プールにでも漬かって、
リラックスでもするかー・・・。
So I decided to stay at a hotel today to relax and swim in a pool instead...

ちょっと落ち込んで、あきらめた後、
よーーーーく、今起きたことについて、考えてみた。

待てよ・・・？
いま、パスポートに再入国のスタンプ（観光ビザ）押してもらったよね？
しかもタダで！！（今日から、９０日有効）
この種のスタンプは、期限内に国外に出ると、新しいのをもらえるのですが、
もし、９０日で国内にて更新するときにはUS＄１００ドルほど
かかるのです。（３００ペソ、１万２千円程度）

YES!!! They gave me a new "entrada" stamp valid for another 90 days
for free!!
(you know, they charge around 100 US dollars to renew turist visa stamp
if I continue staying without getting out of Argentina in 90 days)

なんだ、そう考えれば、朝早くおきて出かけていった国境線での出来事も、
帰りのタクシー代６ペソも、
損でなかったかも・・・・・。

Thinking that way, it might have been worth the trip to the border
and paying 6 pesos for a taxi to get back....

The bus was second storied long distance bus with small busroom.
The first floor seems to be "first class" seats with more rooms but
as you know, this is cheapy porteño trip,
so we were "turista clase"---economy class upstairs.
I think the seat itself is far better than you get on the economy class
on the plane.
They recline more, and seats are wider.
When I started thinking, ....this might not be so bad...
I saw the other busses passing by, and some of them are
so clean and shiny, and some seats are bigger leather ones(3 seats per row,
ususally 4 seats per row) with the sign "cama" (almost bed).
I double confirmed, definetely, we were on the porteño bus.
No fancy, saving money, slow process.

私たちの乗ったバスは2階建てで長距離用の大きなバスで、中に小さい
トイレがひとつあった。
１階は”ファーストクラス”風の余裕のある座席が並んでいた。
しかし、わたしたちは”激安旅”を選んでいるため、
もちろん２階の”ツーリスタ　クラセ”（エコノミークラスにあたる）。
実際見てみると、「思ったほど悪くないかも・・・」
と思い始めた。座席は飛行機のエコノミークラスに比べれば
断然快適で幅もあり、リクラインの角度もかなりある。
清潔さはアルゼンチンではこんなものだろう、というレベルだが。
バスの外を見渡してみると、ターミナルにはたくさんの長距離バス
が泊まっていて、中にはピカピカの高級車っぽいものや、
座席が、飛行機のファーストクラスのような、革張りででかでか
（通常一列に４席あるが、３席しかなかったり）だったり、
バスの壁に”ほぼベッド級座席”と宣伝してあったり。
それを横目で見つつ、
「やっぱり私たちはポルテーニョ級の激安旅行なのだわ・・・」
と再確認したのでした。
贅沢なし、節約、時は金なり。

In Anyway, the bus was moving already, it was better to accept the fact
that I can't jump off and switch the bus.
I tried to calm down for a couple seconds, now
our long long trip had started.
そんなことをいっていても、もうバスは動き始めてしまったので、
飛び降りてあっちの高級バスに乗り移る、というような
ことはあきらめたほうがいい、と覚悟を決め、
数秒間深呼吸し、落ち着きを取り戻した。
こうして、私たちの長い１４時間の旅は始まりました。

A lot of bus companies have "rapido (rapid)" in their name
but they are not like you expect.
It took an hour to get out of the city
ofcourse because of the terrible traffic in Buenos Aires,
and they make more than a couple stops on the way as
our bus is not exactly "express" even though
the name calls for what it means.
Dan and I were chatting this funny language contradiction
and enjoyed ourselves.
バス会社の名前にはなにかしら、”特急、急行”などの”速い”という
単語が入っていることが多いですが、文字の意味でとらないほうがいいでしょう（笑）。
まず、ブエノスアイレスの渋滞はものすごいものですから、
中心街を出るのに、軽く１時間かかりました。
郊外にでてから、また何回も途中停車し
（各駅停車か？という感じ）、停留所で
またほかの客を乗せて走っていくので、
”特急”とはいっても、名前と実際は一致してません。
わたしとダンはそんなおかしな言葉の矛盾を笑い話に花を咲かせていました。

After picking up other customers at the suburb of Buenos Aires,
they served a simple "supper," little sandwiches "migas" and sweet croissant
"media luna" sandwich with ham and cheese with a small muffin.
Ofcourse, they don't have choices of "beef or chicken."
Dan said,
"Wow, look! they serve sandwiches! do you think they also serve anything
to drink?"
I said, " well, I don't know, but do you??"
郊外でその他の客が乗車してから、こんどは、
”軽食”が配られ始めました。
”ミーガ”という、薄いパンのダブル、トリプルにはさんだサンドイッチ、
”メディアルナ”という、蜜のかかった甘いクロワッサンにハムとチーズをはさんだもの、
それとミニサイズのマフィンでした。
もちろん、「牛肉か鶏肉どちらにしますか？」なんていう
選択肢はない。
ダンは食べ物が配られているのに喜んで、
「ちょっと、みてみて！サンドイッチだよー！
飲み物も配ると思う？」
わたしはまったく予想つかず、
「えーそんなのわかんないわよ・・・これケチケチ旅行のはずでしょ？」

In the bus, I saw a coffee server and water server but there aren't any
cups on the side.
I was wondering with Dan if they serve any drinks at this supper,
as we saw the picture signs on the bus outside,
"air conditioned"
"TV or movie"
"Music"
"Bathroom"
"Martini glass and a coffee cup".
I don't know why they choose "martini glass" to express
"drink service" or they actually serve alcohols in that bus.
バスなかにはコーヒーメーカーと
ミネラルウォーターがおいてあるのは目にしているが、
その横にはコップは一切ないのに気づいていた。
バスの外側の壁には、絵のマークでバスの装備を表示してあって、
「冷暖房完備」
「テレビ、映画」
「音楽」
「トイレ」
「カクテルグラスとコーヒーカップ」
が見られたが、
わたしには、はたして、なぜ、カクテルグラスが描いてあるのか、
ドリンクだけでアルコールサービスがあるかどうかなど
アルゼンチン人のやることは予想つかなかったのです。

The driver/server finally started providing us a plastic
cup and 6 oz of coca-cola from a big family size bottle.
Dan was happy, "Wow that's how it works! now we got our cups!"
Here again, ofcourse, you don't expect you have choice of "diet" or not....

少し時間を置いて、ついに、交代運転手兼サービス係のおじさんが、
みんなにプラスチックカップを配り始め、
手にファミリーサイズの２リッター入りのコカコーラボトルをもって、
一人に約１２０ml位注ぎ始めたのでした。
ダンは興奮して、
「ワオー、飲み物きたよー、これであそこにある水ものめるよー！」
もちろんここでは、”ダイエットコーラ”にしてください、なんて
注文はありえない。

Later in the morning, they provided us an alfajor
(cokie sandwich with dulce de leche, the argentinian caramel cream,
covered with chocolate) as the breakfast.
Alfajor is my favorite snack that I found here,
and this made me happy even this is far from
"breakfast."
朝にはその後、おじさんは再び皆にアルファフォーという
チョコパイのようなもの（デゥルセ・デ・レッチェというキャラメル
クリームをはさんだクッキーにチョコレートコーティングしたもの）
を配っていたのですが、
わたしはこのお菓子が大好物だったので、
そんなお菓子が朝食でもわたしはうれしかったのでした。

What I've been learning these days in Argentina is not to expect
anything but to watch and see what happens.
That has been made my experiences even much more exciting and interesting.....

アルゼンチンに来てわたしが学んだことのひとつは、
こうあるべきだ、という先入観を捨てて、じっくり見て待ってみることです。
こんな食べ物はまずい、とか、サービスが悪いとか、
自分の価値観で合格ラインを張ってしまうと、
それで満足する機会も減るし、何でもストレスになってしまいます。
日本や、アメリカでもものの価値観はかなりハイグレードで
高級なものだと実感することが多いですし、
世界中がそんな高級なものだらけではないですから・・・・・。
基準をゼロにおいてみて、そこから観察してみると、
何でもないことでも、予想外の結構楽しい出来事になったりするんです。

まだまだバスの旅は続きます・

ポルテーニョ流ケチケチ旅行　メンドーサ編　その一

My partner Dan heard a package deal trip to Mendoza from
this local friend.
As he knows I am crazy about wine, he signed us up right away.
It included a round trip bus ticket, pick-up to hotel,
3 nights stay with breakfast, the city tour, and the winery tour.
It´s really cheap considering familiar prices of tours outside of Argentina.
私のパートナー「ダン」が、現地の友人から激安旅行がある
と聞いて興奮して帰ってきた。
それはアルゼンチンのワインの町、メンドーサ行き。
ダンはわたしがワイン大好き人間なのをよく知っているので、
速攻申し込んできたのでした。
パッケージには、ブエノスアイレスからの往復バスチケット、
バスターミナルからホテルの送迎、
3泊のホテル代（朝食込み）、市内観光、ワイナリー観光が
組み込まれていて、
アメリカ、日本の値段に慣れている私たちにとって、
激安の旅。


I found out something interesting that you may not encounter
if you travel as a foreign tourist....
この旅で私は外国人旅行客としてはあまり実体験することがないであろう
ちょっと珍しい体験をすることになるのでした。

First of all, it was not a flight, but a road-trip.
If you are scared of air travel, that is cool, this is for you.
When Dan told me it takes over 12 hours, I said.....
Twelve? is it one-two??
wow, it´s just like a flight back to US from Ezeisa,
as it leaves in the evening and arrives in the morning.
まず、この旅は飛行機ではないということ。
長距離バス旅行は、飛行機が怖い人にはもってこいですが、
ダンが私に、片道12時間はかかる、と私に言ってきたとき、
ちょっと信じられなかった。
１０、１１、１２、の12時間ってわけ？
そんな長時間の旅行はアルゼンチン−アメリカ間のフライトみたいだ。
ちょうどおんなじように、夜出発して、朝目的地に着く。

We got at the Omuni Bus terminal, one hour before the bus leaves,
and the terminal was really huge, much more than what I expected.
So many (like 200?)ticket boothes of small bus companies were lined up upstairs
with small rooms sticked together in sections depending on which direction from Buenos Aires they are going, for example, south, north, internaitonal etc.
There are small shops, cafeterias, bookstands, just like an airport in US,
yeah, just like LAX, where traffic is so busy and lots of people passing by.
オムニバスターミナルへ出発一時間前に到着し、
バスターミナルの想像以上の大きさに驚いた。
200件以上の小さなバス会社のカウンターがひしめき、
小さなオフィスがくっつきあったような感じになっていて、
安っぽいドアとガラスで区切られていた。
カウンターは目的地の方角によって区切られていて、
（たとえば、南、東、国際バス、など）
その下の階には小さなお土産やさんや、喫茶店、キオスクが
ならんでいた。
ひとの多さにも驚き、例えれば、
カリフォルニアのロサンゼルス国際空港（LAX）のようである。


After wandering around for a while,
finally we found the booth for this bus company.
There is only one lady at the desk,
and the other guy seemed to work for the another company,
which the sign sticker on the glass separation said.
We show them the vaucher from the travel agency,
but she started looking for something around the desk a
nd calling someone.....
Huh?? Yeah?

しばらくの間、迷子のようにうろうろしながら
パッケージツアーのバス会社を探していた。
そのバス会社のカウンターには
ギャルっぽいお姉さんが一人座っているだけで、
同じ小部屋の隣の机には若いお兄ちゃんがいたが、
カウンターのガラスに張ってある、ステッカーによると、
別のバス会社に勤務しているらしい。
旅行代理店からもらった冊子をお姉さんに見せたが、
彼女は周りをうろうろ見渡し、何かを探しているようで、
電話をどこかへかけ始めた。
あれれれ、およよよよ？？

It didn´t seem like that she found our ticket on the computer.
She talked on the phone, and the phone of a fax phone set,
and the celluar phone upside down used as a transreceiver
( I didn´t know people can use like that way....)
But still, she couldn´t find it.
The guy sitting right next to her
didn´t even try to help her as he is a employee of another company??
AND he start smoking behind the "employee only" door.
( did I mention that smoking is now prohibited in the public area?)
That is really typical cituation in Latin America, huh?
I once thought that kind of attitude was in US but now
I see, that is more true in Argentina.

様子から、コンピューター上に私たちの予約が入っていないようだとわかった。
彼女は「ちょっと待ってて、いま電話で確かめてるから」の一言。
電話、FAX電話の電話機、携帯電話（さかさまにしてトランシーバー風につかっていた）
を操り、うだうだ電話のやり取りをしていた。
携帯電話機がトランシーバーになるなんて、知らなかったよ・・・。
30分以上しても、埒が明かない、
でも、隣のお兄さんはまったく無視で、
助けようとする気配も無し。
ついに、お兄さんは「従業員以外立ち入り禁止」と書かれたドアの後ろに立ち、
タバコに火をつけた（ブエノスアイレスでは公共の場所でのタバコが禁止されたばかり）。
まったく、ラテンの文化である。
こんな無責任風の態度はアメリカでよく目にすると思っていたけど、
それ以上にアルゼンチンは明らかだ。

The clock was ticking, but we were just standing at the counter,
for one hour.
Finally, she printed out our ticket, I don´t know if she found them or
just giving it away as the bus was supposed to leave in 5 minutes after that.
We ran to downstairs to jump on that bus.

およそ、一時間カウンターの横でただ立って待っていた私たち。
もうすぐ、私たちが乗るはずだったバスが
出発というときになって、
そのお姉さんはチケットをプリントして私たちにくれた。
なにか文句を超早口で吐いていたが、わたしのスペイン語力ではそこまで理解不可能。
予約が見つかったのか、ただチケットだけくれようとしたのか、
よくわからなかったが、
出発5分前、チケットを手にした私たちは、
走って、プラットフォームへ行き、
メンドーサ行きのバスに飛び乗ったのでした。
