Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

I have been eager to have Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

Many people have been posting articles and photos of their products, making my mouth watering.

Before I gained a lot of weight, I didn't like doughnuts or chocolate parfait.
Now they are my favorite food.
As I wrote once, one of Ohio's laws is "Fat (on my body) calls for Fat (food)".

Anyway I want to eat Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, but they have outlets only in Tokyo in Japan.

Buuuuuuuut!
I came up with an excellent idea and searched on the Net!
He, he, he..... there is a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts shop in the town in ohio where I used to stay and I am going to visit in September! Ha, ha, ha, hya, hya, hya!　My potbelly is shaking!
Why can I be so smart when it comes to eating?

By the way, why is their name not "Crispy Cream Doughnuts"?
"Krispy Kreme" is German or something?
At least they use the right spelling for "doughnuts", so I will cut them some slack..... Who do I think I am!?

But, then again, I think "Hey, it's wrong, isn't it?" when I see another spelling "donuts".
Were both the spelling correct in good old days?
"The beauty of English spelling is in silent letters in words.".... I have no idea if any great men ever said so......


クリスピークリームドーナッツが食べたくてたまらない・・。

大勢の人が、クリスピークリームドーナッツの写真や記事を載せたりして、わたしのよだれを誘っているのだ。

太る前は、ドーナツやチョコレートパフェは好きじゃなかった。
いまや大好きだ。
以前書いたように、「（体の）脂肪は（食べ物の）脂肪を呼ぶ」というオハイオ（わたし♡）の法則があるくらいだ。

とにかく食べたくてたまらないが、日本では東京にしかお店がない！

しか〜〜〜〜し！
いい考えがうかび、ネットで検索してみると・・・
ひひひ、アメリカで住んでた、９月にまた訪問する町にお店があったーーー！
がははははは、ひゃ、ひゃ、ひゃ！あ〜、おなかがゆれる。
食べることになると、どうしてこんなに頭がまわるのかしらん。

ところで、どうして"Crispy Cream Doughnuts"　じゃなくて、"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts"なんでしょうねえ。ドイツ語か何かですかい。
まあ、"Doughnuts" は正しいスペルだから、いいにしてやろう。。。。何様だと思ってるんだか。

いや、しかし、"Donuts"とか書かれると、「おい、それは違うだろう！」などと思ってしまうんですよ。
これって、昔からどっちでもよかったんですか？
「英語のスペルは読まない文字があるところに美しさがあるのである」・・・と誰か偉人が言ったかどうかは定かでない。

B&B

As many of you know, I am planning to visit Niagara Falls area and Ohio in September.

Planning the trip, I am always amazed how reasonable accommodations in America are.
Of course I am not talking about first class hotels.
Last time one of my students who took the trip with me asked, “Is the rate of this room around \20,000 per person?” Actually, it’s only \10,000 per room for two.
Especially Ohio is not a big tourist spot so the rates are quite affordable.
Or I should say, Japanese style hotels are outrageously expensive!

I like bed and breakfasts so I am going to stay at one near Niagara Falls.　The rate is about CN$200 including tax.

In Ohio Amish Country, we are going stay at a bed-and-breakfast type inn where I stayed last time. It is on a “rolling hill” in the Amish Country and has a beautiful quiet view.
The rate is only $110 for three people. (about JP\12000 = \4,000/person) I’ll share the bed with my daughter.
It includes the room and breakfast. Dinner is not included. But isn’t it reasonable?

This is a cabin type accommodation I want to stay at some day.

This is the living room and the unit has a full kitchen and two bedrooms/two bathrooms!
And it’s $180 for four people! (Weekdays in season) It’s only \5000.- per person, though about 12% tax will be added.

But the problem of bed and breakfasts in America is that most of them have only one king/queen/double bed in a room. It’s no problem if you travel with your spouses or family members, but with your friends, I guess most people want to have a bed to themselves.
There are so many bed and breakfasts there, but because of this I had to choose a bed-and-breakfast type inn instead of an authentic one last time.

I have a feeling that bed and breakfasts in America caters to honeymooners and when they travel with friends or family, most people stay at motels.

But staying B&B is like what we call “homestay”. Why don’t you stay at one next time?

ご存知のように9月にナイアガラとオハイオを訪ねる旅を計画中です。

旅行を計画していると、アメリカでは宿泊がすご〜く安いのにいつもびっくりします。
もちろん一流ホテルはのぞきますが。
前回とまったベッドアンドブレックファスト(B&B)では、いっしょに行った生徒さんが「この部屋はひとり２万くらい？」と聞いた部屋が、一部屋二人で一万ちょっとです。
オハイオは特に大きな観光地ではないので安い。
というか、日本の旅館は豪華な夕食がつくとはいえ、わたしからするとバカ高い。

B&B（日本のペンションのようなもの。部屋と朝食がついている）が好きなので、ナイアガラでは滝の近くのベッドアンドブレックファストに泊まります。ここは税込み一泊200カナダドルです。

オハイオのアーミッシュカントリーでは、前回泊まったB&Bタイプのインに泊まります。
“rolling hills”と呼ばれるこの地方独特の地形の、丘の上に立っていて景色がすばらしいです。お部屋料は3人で一泊110ドル。（ひとり4000円くらい）わたしと娘が同じベットに寝るつもりです。朝食つきで、夕食はついていませんが、リーズナブルですよねえ。

これがリビングルームで、寝室がふたつにバスルームもそれぞれついていて、4人で180ドル（税別−１２％）。ひとり5000円くらい。

でも、アメリカのベッドアンドブレックファストの問題は、たいていひとつの部屋にキング/クイーン/ダブルサイズのベットがひとつしかないことです。
夫婦や家族での旅行なら問題ないけど、友人だと、やはり一人一台ベットが欲しいですよね。
それで、前回旅行したときは本格的なB&BじゃなくてB&B風のインになっちゃった。

どうもアメリカではB&Bはハネムーナー向きらしく、友達と旅行したり家族旅行するときはリーズナブルにモーテルに泊まるのが一般的らしい。
でも、B&Bに泊まるとホームステイみたいでいいですよ〜。次回いかがですか〜？

Trip Plan

I am planning to visit Ohio this fall! Yeah!

Day 2 Niagara Falls Region Sightseeing

Day 3 Driving Down to Ohio Amish Country

Day 4 Ohio Amish Country Sightseeing

Day 5 Leaving Amish Country to Delaware, Ohio Visiting my host parents

Day 6 Delaware, Ohio Visiting my old boyfriend...I'm just joking!

Day 7 Leaving Columbus, Ohio to Nagoya

Day 8 Arriving Nagoya

This will be my fourth visit to Delaware, Ohio, third to Niagara Falls and Ohio Amish Country.

I am not flush with cash, but I want to go when I can.

オハイオ 想い出

This is one of my favorite memories from my days in Ohio. I can never remember this without giggling and feel nostalgic for my good old days.

One Saturday/Sunday morning, we, probably four or five Japanese girls, were hanging around in a hall of a dormitory. We decided to go downtown. Someone said, “Oh, where is Eiko(pseudonym)? Let’s drop in her room to see if she wants to join us.” So we went to her room on the way downtown. The unit she lived in had a study between two bedrooms. Four students were supposed to live in the unit, but Eiko had a bedroom to herself and in another bedroom her two American roommates slept. We Knocked on the door to the study from the hallway and one of her roommates let us in. Yelling, “Hey, Eiko, we are going downtown. Do you want to come along?” , we knocked the door to her bedroom, but we didn’t wait for her answer. After all it was Japanese-Japanese relation. We opened the door.

Sorry, nothing happened yet!

I was in the back row and heard Eiko say “I’m sleepy. I take a pass on it.” “Oh, all right. See you later, then.” And we left. For a few minutes after leaving her room walking down the hallway, nobody let out a word, which was very rare for us. We usually never stopped talking. Suddenly someone stopped in her tracks and said,

“Well, wasn’t there another head in the bed?”

Ha, ha, ha!

オハイオでの想い出。
これを思い出すとくすくす笑わずにはいられない。そして懐かしい気持ちになる。

ある土曜日か日曜日の朝、私たち、多分4−5人の日本人の女の子が寮のロビーでぶらぶらしてたけど、ダウンタウンに行くことに決めました。だれかが、「Eiko（仮名です）がいないじゃん。一緒に行くかどうかEikoの部屋によって聞いていこう。」っていって、ダウンタウンにいく途中に寄っていくことに決めました。彼女が住んでいる寮の部屋は二つのベットルームの間に勉強部屋があるタイプだった。4人部屋だったけど、Eikoはひとつのベットルームを一人で使っていて、もうひとつのベットルームをアメリカ人ルームメイト二人が使っていた。
廊下から勉強部屋へのドアをノックすると、彼女のルームメイトが中に入れてくれた。
「Eiko〜、ダウンタウン行くよ〜。一緒に行く〜？」って聞きながら、ベッドルームのドアをノックした。でも日本人同士だし、返事を待たずにドアを開けた。

いや、なにも起こりませんよ。まだ。

わたしは後ろのほうにいて、Eikoが「う〜ん、眠いからまたにする〜。」というのを聞いていた。「オッケー、じゃあまたね〜。」って言って私たちは部屋を出た。部屋をでて廊下を歩いている数分間、だれもなにも話さない。まったくわたしたちにとっては珍しいことだ。そしたらだれかが急に立ち止まり言った。

「ねえ、ベッドの中にもうひとつ頭がなかった？？？？」

はっはっは！
もし、心当たりある人は、わたしに連絡しなさい!　命令だ！

↓これらのlatitudeを使った言い方は知ってたけど、↑のように、parallel を使うとはねえ。

おみやげ

The items in the above photos are souvenirs I brought back when I visited Ohio last fall.
As my trip is always on a tight budget, they are all junks.

When I visit the U.S., I try to get the following items.
1. American Country style goods

I especially like pitchers.

2. Painkiller

Painkillers are less expensive in the U.S.

3. Beefjerky

My husband love beefjerky. Maybe more than he loves me.

4. Doritos

I love Doritos. Maybe more than I love my husband.
I know these days Doritos are available in Japan, but I see Doritos,
then the next moment I have one or two bags of Doritos in my hands.

One of my nephews, who are studying at a college in the U.S., is coming back soon to spend the summer vacation in Japan.
My sister asked him to bring back Stussy brand T-shirts for her son. 　She says the brand’s goods are far less expensive in the U.S. So, what should I ask him to get for me?

Do you have anything that you don’t fail to get every time you go abroad?

写真は去年の秋、オハイオを訪れたときに買ってきたお土産です。貧乏旅行なのでがらくたばっかりです。( ^_^; )

アメリカに行ったら、買ってくるものは
１．アメリカンカントリーグッズ
　　　特に水差しがすき。
２．鎮痛薬　　　　　　　　　　　　　

アメリカでは安い。

３．ビーフジャーキー
　　　うちの彼はビーフジャーキーがだいすき。もしかしたら、私のことよりも好きかも。
４．ドリトス(スナック)
　　　私はドリトスが大好き。もしかしたら、うちの彼のことよりも好きかも。

この頃は日本でも手に入るとわかっているけど、ドリトスを見たら最後、
次の瞬間には１，２袋手にしている。

アメリカの大学で勉強している甥が夏休みでもうじき帰ってくる。
姉は息子用にステューシー（？）のTシャツを買ってきてくれるように頼んでいた。アメリカだとずっと安いんだって。　私はなにを頼もうかなあ。

皆さんは、海外にいったら必ず買ってくるものってありますか？？
