March 31, 2007 ビジネス英会話で plum すばらしいもの
という表現がでてきたので、フルーツに関する知っている表現って何があるかな？とかんがえてみた。驚くべきことに思いつくものほとんどすぺてリンゴを使ったイディオムだった。リンゴを使った表現については以前記事にしたことがあります。こちら→http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ohio1982oh/37945209.html で、他にフルーツ関係で知っている表現は・・？と考えたら、なんと go bananas 興奮して騒ぐ、ひどく怒る、気が狂う、気が変になる、頭がおかしくなる、気違い〔差別語〕になる、熱狂する、〔機器が〕いかれる
しか、出てこなくかった。( ^_^; ) この語源として、“◆【語源】バナナを目の前に出されたサルが騒ぐ様子から”と書いてあるのがオモシロイ。 それで、英辞朗でいろいろな果物の名前を入れて検索してみた。 一番面白かったのは、 kiwi
【名-1】 《鳥》キーウィ◆ニュージランドの鳥。飛ばない。体がニワトリくらいの大きさなのに、ダチョウの卵と同じ大きさの卵を産む。 【名-2】 《果物》キーウィ だ。【名-2】 《果物》キーウィ に続いて、 【同】kiwifruit◆ニュージランド人は kiwifruit を kiwi といわれると怒る。
lol! うーん、皆さん、キーウイのことは、キーウイフルーツと呼びましょう。でないと、ニュージーランドの方に怒られるよ。って、ホントですか、これは？ なにか面白い、フルーツのトリビアや表現をご存知でしたら、教えてくださいね〜。 ＜追記＞ Mikko and Michyさんより If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. （直訳 人生があなたにレモンを与えたら、レモネードを作りなさい。 → 逆境に強くなりなさい。転んでもただではおきるな。） う〜ん、このことわざでも lemon はよくないもの、静岡弁でいうと“おぞい”ものとして使われている感じですね。 ↑によって思い出した〜

I have heard President Lincoln was the model for Uncle Sam, but I just found out that he wasn’t. But the whisker were added in reference to him later. According to Wikpedia, there was a meat supplier named Samuel Wilson in Troy, New York. He supplied meat to the Army and he had the barrels of meat branded “U.S.” meaning “The United States.” The soldiers jokingly said it was short for Uncle Sam. This is the origine of “Uncle Sam”. June 12, 2006 Do you know what "Adam’s profession"is? I came across this expression recently. It means “farming/gardening”. My husband is a farmer. So he is Adam!? Mmmmm, my Adam! Then I am Eve!! Uhh, ridiculous.. There are some expressions related to Adam. Adam’s apple

Dick I mentioned this name long time ago here. I’m worried for the consumer loan company. Oops, this is getting obscene. Why do I know these expressions??
