Long time no see.

Since I haven’t writtenany articles here for years, I suppose many of my blog friends might think Ihad serious health problems or even imagine worst case.  I am now 84 years of age and unfortunatelynot in 100% perfect in health, but still living the last part of my life aswell as I can. 

To escape from the old mans’ tedious life, I startedto teach English to high and Jr. high school students some 5 years ago, andeven now I give lessons two time a week to two high school boys of 1^stgrade.  These boys have passed the level2 English Language Proficiency test when they were in their 3^rd gradof Jr. high and I am quite sure they will pass the pre-level 1 English LanguageProficiency test during the rest of the year, with which they can be excusedfrom the preliminary university entrance examinations, so called English CenterTest.

So they don’t want to haveordinary English lessons like grammar or review of what they learned at school,but now they read Harry Potter Series with me. Beside me they read the stories aloud, and from time to time I try tocorrect their pronunciation or tell the meanings of the words they don’tknow.  One has finished 4 stories and theother has read 2.  The stories usuallyhave hundreds of pages and are not short stories, but they are really enjoyingreading Harry Potter series.

I’m getting a bit tired now, sothat’s it for today here, but I will try to come up with something to write forthis blog.

何年もここに記事を書かずにサボっていましたので、このブログでお知り合いになったお友達の多くの方は私がなんか大変健康を損なったか、または最悪のケースさえ想像されたかもしれません。　今の私は８４歳になり、残念ながら１００％健康とは言えませんが、なんとかかんとか人生の最後の部分を過ごしております。

老人の退屈な生活を紛らわせるため、５年ほど前から高校生や中学生に英語を教え始めました、今でも二人の高校一年生が週に２回通ってきています。　この子たちは中三の時に既に英検２級に合格し、今年中には英検準１級に合格するのは間違いないと思っています、そうなればいわゆる大学入学試験用のセンター試験の英語が免除されます(願書を出せば満点がもらえる)。

そんな訳で、この子たちは文法や、学校の授業の復習のような普通のレッスンはやりたがりません、今は私のところでハリー・ポッターシリーズを読んでいます。　私の側で物語を完全に音読します、そして私が時々発音を直したり、意味の解らない単語やフレーズの説明をします。　一人の生徒はもう４巻まで読み終わり、もう一人は２巻読みました。この物語は普通一巻が数百ページで決して短い物語ではありません、それでも子供たちは本当にハリーポッターを読むのを楽しんでいます。

ここまで来た少々くたびれました、今日はこのくらいにして、またそのうちに何か思いついたらブログに書くことにします。

久しぶりに文章を読むことができました。それも英語と日本語の対訳バージョンで。ゴールデンウィークのプレゼントのように感じました。
ぼくは昨年６月から北京の出版社で仕事を始めました。

８４歳で現役の英語の先生とは素晴らしいです。

私の場合、教えるというより、ひ孫か孫と楽しく遊んでいるという具合です。それでもそれなりに結果を出してくれますから、子供の能力はきりがないですね。
