私の敬愛する台湾出身の「日本画家」郭雪湖さんの作品を紹介しています。

郭雪湖　大城遺跡﹝泰國﹞ 1955 年　紙‧膠彩　　67 x 89 cm

郭雪湖一九五五年至泰國舉行個展、順道遊覽古蹟與水市、曾畫了多幅速寫作為創作資料。此畫面中、古塔數座、羅列在草坪上。膠彩層層上色時、先加染底色、再將紙張略 cm縐、重新拉平後、復加彩。利用微有皺紋之效果、凸起處始受色、能表現出老牆斑剝之感。

In 1955 KUO held a solo exhibition in Thailand, and went sightseeing among the ruins and water markets, which led to many sketches. This work presents a row of ancient towers lining the meadow. After a base color is first applied, the paper is slightly crinkled, and then straightened for a second layer of color. The slightly crinkled surface enables the protruding parts to receive the color first, thus creating a mottled and peeling look.

農家朝（八斗里）　 1940　 紙‧膠彩　56×85cm

畫八斗里（今萬華）之農家、朦朧晨霧中、仍見一輪明月迷迷濛濛之氣氛之中、表現幽靜的境界、細膩的情調、在畫之虛實間、以「虛」的成分居多、是敦、雪湖追求新美術、回顧傳統之間、尋得的一種幽靜深邃的詩意畫境。

Morning at the Farm　　 1940

Paper．Gouache color　 56x85 cm

An arching moon is still discernible in the morning vapor enveloping the farm at Patouli. Many parts of the picture are left unpainted, conveying a tranquil and delicate feel, and leaving a lot to the imagination. This emphasis on what is unsaid rather than what is said is part of KUO's search for renovation to an age-old tradition.
