ASL(Australia's Surfing Life)ニュースのウェブサイトに、ハワイで開催中のVOLCOM PIPELINE PRO(JAN. 23 - FEB. 5, 2010)に出場中のプロサーファーWalshyのインタビュー記事がアップされています。 Walshyは昨年の11月初旬から、 ハワイ諸島の各地にビッグスウェルを追い求めていました。 そして、彼の全てのサーフィンシーンを撮影するために、 ASLはあらゆる種類のカメラを使い続けていたそうです。 Walshyが何故これまでパイプラインにこれほど成功を収めたなどについて知るために、 ASLはVOLCOMのパイプライン・プロサーファーのLennoxに連絡をとりました。 以下はASLのオフィシャルサイトからの転載です。 Anthony Walsh may well be the hardest working man in pro surfing. Walshy has been in Hawaii since early November chasing big swells all over the island chain, using all kinds of cameras to capture his every wave. After watching him come second in pumping waves against a field of Pipeline specialists at the Volcom Pipe Pro, we got in touch with the Lennox pro to see why he's been so successful at Pipe, and how this crazy ol' comp went down. Ant, you're more famous for your free-surfing, what made you want to enter the Volcom Pipe Pro? I love Pipeline so to get it with only three other people out is so sick, especially when it's pumping. What do you like about competing? Winning (laughs). Is it intimidating coming up against the Hawaiians? Not at all. I've been coming here for a long time and know all the guys really well. It's only intimidating because I know how good they are out there and then you have to try and rise to that level. Tell us about the final. The waves were pretty slow, but there were still some really good ones to be had. I had one good one and didn't make it, and then could't find another wave to get in front of Jamie O'Brien. But I'm still really happy with the result. Did you ever think Aussies would come second and third with so many Pipe specialists in the event? I dunno, but I think that some of the best surfers at Pipe are Aussies. Look at 2009 Pipeline Masters Champ Taj Burrow for example. Bede (Durbidge) won it a couple years ago too. How are you going to celebrate? I'm just going out with family and friends for dinner, no big party or anything. Do you get a wildcard into the Pipe Masters? I hope so, but not sure. Probably not with the way everything is with the ASP and Hawaii. It's been an epic season huh? Yeah its been pumping, just swell after swell for weeks. So good. What’s the biggest waves you caught this season? I surfed some 20 foot days at Waimea around the time of the Eddie. When’s are you ever going to get an invite to the Eddie? Thats never going to happen I'd say. Bummer. |

1月9日からのオーストラリアのシドニーのNorth Narrabeenで、 その熱戦の模様がSURFING AUSTRALIAのオフィシャルサイトの SURFING NSWにアップされていました。 ASP World Junior Championshipsの各ラウンドごとのライブ映像が、 Perfect 10 point rides on Day 5 of Billabong ASP World Junior Championships as Internationals Shine Thursday, 14 January 2010 The world's best surf action is always guaranteed at the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships and today was no exception as the Men's Round 2 and 3 were completed in stormy, 1.5 metre conditions at famous North Narrabeen Beach. Ending a very forgettable run of sloppy summer waves, the sudden increase in swell was a welcome relief for organisers, who pushed through a record 32 heats; and giving big-names like Clay Marzo (Maui, HAW), Cory Arrambide (Ventura, CA, USA) and Jadson Andre (Natal City, BRZ) room to move, as the internationals dipped into their bag of tricks to advance from their respective heats. The light onshore wind provided competitors with the ideal launching pads, as they flew one-after-the-other into futuristic aerial moves - each heat progressing with intensity as the rounds progressed. Franklin Serpa (BRZ) was one little-known Brazilian to turn heads with an impressive display versus Charles Martin (GLP); Serpa registered the day's second highest two-wave combined heat score of 16.16 points, which included an excellent 8.83 ride. But the applause was loudest for one of the youngest competitors in the event. Surprise package Gabriel Medina (BRZ) turned just 16 years-old in December and shocked onlookers with the most-committed performance seen this week. Medina carved and spun his way to the highest scoring individual wave of the event in his 25 minute encounter against Aussie Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW) - a near perfect 9.57. Then backed it up moments later with the event's first perfect 10. The Brazilian's performance had crowds on their feet, as he whipped through his dazzling array of manoeuvres. But it also came at the expense of Bowen who had no reply as the young Brazilian ‘grommet' stole the show. Medina's final two-wave combined heat total was 19.57 points out of a possible 20, with Bowen eliminated in 17th place on just 9.83 points. Action continued late in the day, with home-grown talents Brent Savage (Cabarita, NSW, AUS) and trials winner Ryan Callinan (Merewether, NSW, AUS) surviving their Round 2 elimination heats to join seeded compatriots Stuart Kennedy (Lennox Head, NSW, AUS), Davey Cathels (Narrabeen, NSW, AUS) and Chris Friend (Maroochydoore, Ald, AUS) in Round 3, with all surfers drawn against visiting internationals. While Owen Wright (Lennox Head, NSW, AUS) and Garrett Parkes (Byron Bay, NSW, AUS) will fight it out in an all green n' gold showdown. Just 16 surfers remain in the event with seven world regions represented. Competition organisers will assess conditions again at 7am tomorrow morning when action is expected to resume with Mens Round 4, or the Womens Quarter finals. 僕が１年を通してサーフィンに通っているのは、 今年９月に気仙沼市と合併した宮城県気仙沼市本吉町です。 本吉には小泉（河口,第１，第２,etc.）、登米沢（ウニ浜,玉石,崖前,etc.）、小金沢、御伊勢など、 リーフやビーチといった変化に富んだサーフィン・ポイントに恵まれています。 気仙沼市南部から牡鹿半島・金華山に至るリアス式海岸は、 南三陸金華山国定公園に指定されていて、 小泉海岸や登米沢海岸は風光明媚、 海から眺めた景色は心が洗われるほど綺麗です。 景色とともに自慢できるのは海の美しさです。 今年はETC割引の影響で、 特に連休中は関西方面や名古屋、湘南や鎌倉、関東方面などから、 たくさんのサーファーがサーフトリプに来ていました。 そうした遠方から訪れたサーファーと、 波待ち中に話す機会が多かったのですが、 「海や景色がとっても綺麗だったのでまた来ました。」 と、何人ものサーファーから言われたのが印象に残りました。 もちろん、波質も良いので、 良いときに当たり、イイ思いをすれば、 遠距離ドライブ、渋滞覚悟でまた来たくなるのも納得です。 12月23日の小泉海岸は、 久しぶりにサイズが上がっていたとかで（といっても、腰原、たまに胸）、 天気にも恵まれたこともあり、 ショートやBBに混じって楽しく２ランドさせていただきました。 この日は風もなくて、 水は海底の砂がハッキリ見えるほど透明感が高く、 波を横から見ると、 切ったガラスを横から見た時のような、 透明感のある緑色してとても綺麗でした。 さすがに海水温は冷たいのですが、 フルドライスーツを着ているので寒さは感じません。 晴れていれば日差しで暑いほどです。 素晴らしい景色と自然に囲まれ、 美しい海で顔なじみの仲間達とサーフィンを一緒に楽しむなんて、 あぁぁ〜、この時間がずっと続けばいいのに....... と、思っちゃいほど幸せです。 まじ、サーフィンしていて良かったと思います。 最後の写真に写っているのは干している僕のフルドライスーツです。 これを見てサナエさん（写っているボードの主）が、 「部屋の中にフルドライスーツを掛けているのを見たばぁちゃんが、凄くビックリした！」 と教えてくれました（笑）

今月出張で初めて訪れる、 台湾のサーフィン事情をネットで調べていたら、 南台のリゾート地、墾丁（コンテイ）にある、 ナイスな墾丁衝浪店のブログを見つけたのでご紹介しま〜す。 お店のブログには、 なぜか水着ギャルの写真が多数アップされていました（レレレのレ？） サーファーもサーファーじゃない人もぜひご覧ください（笑） 日本にいると、 台湾のサーフィン情報に接する機会が極端に少ないので、 今まで、「え！？ 台湾でサーフィンできるの？？」という自分でした（汗） でも、考えてみたら台湾も日本と同じに四方を海に囲まれている島国です。 しかも、台北は亜熱帯、 台南は熱帯の気候だということですので（昨日の気温は３０度！）、 波に恵まれてさえいたら、 サーファーにとっては台南はパラダイスですね〜(^_^) 墾丁衝浪店のオフィシャルページ

親子でのサーフィンって、 とても微笑ましいというか、 正直、羨ましいです。 うねりが入り、 波も高かったので、 テトラブロックで羽を休めるカモメたちがたくさんいました。 彼女は第２，第１を通り過ぎ、 河口のポイントに入りました。 正解だったと思います。 ショートのクイックなモーションやマニューバにも憧れます。 僕もいつかはロングボードで、 マニューバ・スタイルのサーフィンをしてみたいです(^_^)v
