タイトルを見て、日本じゃあまり知られていないけれど〜
これは淡路島の淡路市（元々は津名町、町村合併で淡路市）で、毎年行われているAIR（Ａｒｔｉｓｔ
ｉｎ Ｒｅｓｉｄｅｎｃｅ）という、日本の水彩木版画（浮世絵など）の技術を世界のアーティストに
広める行事です。教えるのは日本の伝統的木版画の職人（彫師、摺師）です。私は英語が喋れないので
通訳を介して教えます。これまでに教えた人たちは、アイルランド、ＵＫ、デンマーク、ドイツ、イタリ
ア、ポーランド、スペイン、スウェーデン、カナダ、アメリカ、メキシコ、ブラジル、ニュージーランド
オーストラリア、ビルマ、タイ、韓国などのアーティスト、教育関係者（大学の先生）です。
最初（２００１年）に行ったときは外人慣れしていなかったので緊張したけれど、最近は少し慣れまし
た。

artists, such as Australia, Burma, Thailand, and South Korea, and the educational persons
concerned (teacher of a university). Since foreigner practice had not been carried out when
