淡路島の津名町で催されていた水彩多色摺り木版画制作プログラムに、前任の摺り師：戸田さんが亡くな
られて、バトンタッチするかたちで初めて行ったのが２００１年１１月でした。
はじめて、外国のアーティストに摺りの技術を教えるということで、印象深く記憶に残っています。
世話役の門田さん、英語の通訳イーデン（オーストラリア）さん。
生徒はイェンズ（デンマーク）さん、カレン（アメリカ）さん、マリー（カナダ）さん、
サンディ（イギリス）さん、トンチャイ（タイ）さん、全部で５名でした。
みなさんは４０日くらい仕事を休んで、遠い異国（極東に位置する日本）まで、日本の木版画（浮世絵）
の技術を習いにこられて、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいでした。
授業の最後に、外国のアーティストを聴衆に、自作の木版画のプレゼンテーションまでさせてもらって
帰路につきました。
この体験で感じたことは、言葉は通じなくても気持ちは通じるってことでした。
