Our cat, Coco, has been with us for about two years now. We happened to meet her at the SPCA animal shelter and my partner fell in love with her at first sight. He talked me into adopting her. To tell you the truth, I was a little worried about having a cat at our place at the beginning. Because I didn’t think that I would like cats --- I was not interested in cats at all and I thought I was totally a dog person. In addition, I didn’t know about cats at all. I knew my partner liked cats better than dogs and that he used to have a cat when he was young. However, after we started living together with her, it didn’t take that long for me to be hooked by this small & beautiful creature. I was amazed to realize that cats are such a lovely animal. I thought cats were always gloomy and ill-natured, but I eventually realized that I was not right. Coco is always pleasant and caring, in addition, she often shows her affection to us like we give our affection to her. She always wants to be with us, but she doesn’t ask us to care about her all the time. She is an expert at splitting her time between being with us and being by herself. Sometimes she curls up on us and starts purring--- she seems very content. Later, she walks away to my study room and starts taking a nap alone. I like the way she deals with us because it seems so natural. By the way, I noticed an interesting phenomenon, which has to do with Coco. I noticed my partner and I argue much less since we adopted Coco. We used to often argue with each other and we easily got depressed by trivial matters. However, after Coco started living with us, our state of mind seems to have become more stable and we feel happier. I think it is because of Coco. I’ve heard about animal therapy and now, I believe in it very much. Animals must have powers to heal people’s heart. |
