I have an interesting story regarding my paintings. I exhibited eleven paintings at the annual art show this year. When Rob and I matted our paintings together several days before the show, we consulted about the price of our paintings and we tagged each painting. I lined up my paintings from the most favorite to the least favorite at first, then I decided how much I should ask for. Last year, we hesitated to tag a high price to our paintings. However, the situation changed this year. We decided to tag higher prices this time because we were sure we did much better job with our paintings than last year. In addition, Rob was commissioned to paint by many people and sold a lot of paintings during the year. These factors made us feel more confident about our paintings. I set the lowest price at 80 dollars and the highest at 150 dollars. I chose “Woods at spooky dusk” painting as my least favorite one and I tagged 80 bucks on the painting without hesitation. To tell you the truth, I was not going to exhibit the painting at the show at the beginning, but my teacher recommended that I display it. At that time, I didn’t expect that someone would buy the painting at all. However, a very interesting thing happened. Our friends, Peter and Taro came to the show. I invited them a few weeks earlier and they remembered that. When they arrived, they asked me to show them my paintings, so I brought them to the wall, where my paintings were displayed. After looking at them, Taro said that he would like to buy the “fountain in Paris” painting. I was surprised to hear his offer, but on the other hand, I was happy to sell it to him because it was one of my favorite paintings. Then, Peter said, “I want to buy this painting” and he pointed to my least favorite painting. “Oh, really?? Are you sure? Do you want to buy this??”, I was very surprised to hear his offer. He said that the painting reminded him of the pathway to his cottage in Ontario. Hearing that, I thought every person has a different sense of value. |
