You might not know, but the new term of all the Japanese schools starts in April. So, for the Japanese people, the image of cherry blossoms always has to do with the new school year. Surprisingly, I still remember the day when I entered elementary school in 1973. It was such a gorgeous day and I was so impressed by the full bloom of the cherry trees in the schoolyard. The contrast of the colour of blue sky and the light pink of the blossoms was so beautiful. That’s why cherry blossoms became one of our national flowers (the other is chrysanthemum) and we have special feelings toward the cherry blossoms, I guess. Speaking of April, most of the Japanese companies begin the new fiscal year then, too. Personnel transfers are usually carried out in each company in this period. While I was working for 16 years, I was transferred 4 times in the same company. Changing departments is usually a very stressful event for the businessmen because we have to learn the new skills to deal with the new tasks at the beginning. However, I liked to move to a different department because I felt refreshed in a way and I was glad to be able to start new projects. By the way, a few days ago, I got emails from some of my former colleagues. All of them wanted to tell me about the news of the personnel transfers. Some colleagues confessed their anxieties about being transferred to new departments, and others told me about their excitement about their new careers. I totally could understand how they felt, so I replied to each of them with a lot of encouragement. I just hope they will be able to get used to the new circumstances eventually. Writing to them, I began to think about my new job here… |
