GREATEST HITS / Brenda Russell

EMIへの移籍後に、かつての所属会社A&Mがリリースしたベストアルバム。
A&Mからは4枚のアルバムがリリースされているが、ここでは「LOVE LIFE」からは選曲されていません。
その後に本人選曲のもとに発売されたベスト盤にも「LOVE LIFE」からは選曲されていませんから、本人は「LOVE LIFE」は好きな作品ではないのかもしれませんね。

オリジナルの米国盤は10曲入りですが、英SPECTRUM盤は2曲多い12曲入り。
米国盤は(当時としては音質の良い)リマスタリング音源なのに対して、英国盤は米国盤に比べ音質は劣ります。
購入する方は音質or曲数のどちらを取るかを考える必要がありそうです。

国内盤は92年の発売当初は米国ヴァージョンがPOLYDORよりリリースされていましたが、2006年の再発の際は英国ヴァージョンでUNIVERSAL MUSICより発売されました。

前作とは打って変わったUK SOULの匂いのするコンテンポラリーな作品です。

国内盤は英国に先行してCOLUMBIA MUSICよりリリース、米盤は英国より遅れてNARADA JAZZよりリリースされました。

国内盤は2曲のBonus Trackを含む全13曲入りとしてEPIC RECORDSよりリリース。
ただし、Bonus Trackには作者や演奏者などのクレジットなどは一切表記が無く、デモトラックなのか音質も悪いものの、どちらの曲も素晴らしい仕上がりで一聴の価値はあります。
また、米盤の2nd Priting(現在流通盤)はCD-EXTRA仕様で本人がインタビューや各楽曲解説もしています。

SOUL TAKIN' / Brenda Russell

大物プロデューサーであるRon Fairに導かれてEMIに移籍。
しかし、製作途中のトラブルなどから発売は1年以上延期となり、EMIでの作品もこれ1枚となってしまいました。
内容は前作に引き続きほとんどの作品のアレンジを本人の手によって行っていますが、全編にわたって生演奏により制作されており、流行の音を意識した前2作とは違うAORな作りになっています。
また、初めて他人の作品のカヴァーを収録しています。

国内盤は同年に東芝EMIよりリリースされている。
