ソロデビュー30周年を記念して英国のDOME RECORDSからリリースされることが決定したベスト盤です。
前作から既に5年、新作を含めて音源のリリースに関するニュースがミュージカルのサントラのみという寂しい状態だった所へ突然のリリース情報で驚きましたが、同時に「またベストか....」という感じも。

選曲は前作の曲にそれまでの代表曲を混ぜた感じで、特に目新しいものはありませんが、ライナーノーツは本人が書いています。

音の方は...と言いますと、どの曲もフェイドアウトの最後の部分が“ブツ切り”になっているのです!!
本人の関わっている作品で、どうしてこんなことになってしまっているのでしょう。
丁寧なマスタリングが行われていないので、残念ですが、あまりおすすめできない作品となってしまいました。

国内盤は現在のところリリース予定は無く、米国でのリリース予定もありません。

ULTIMATE COLLECTION / Brenda Russell

UNIVERSAL MUSICのレーベルであるHIP-Oからのベスト盤。
音源はBrian & BrendaのROCKETからA&M、WARNER、EMIという93年までの全てのアルバムからのセレクト。
日本以外ではCD化されていない「LOVE LIFE」からの曲や初CD化のBrian & Brenda音源、さらにMichael Franksとのデュエットまで収録した完全入門用作品。
ただし、各楽曲がFade Out〜Fade InでほぼNON-STOP状態で編集されており、アルバムとしてこそ楽しめるものの、各楽曲をじっくり楽しむには不向き。
音源は全てデジタルリマスタリングを施され高音質になっている他、詳しいライナーノートも掲載した充実作ではあります。

日本国内盤は未発売。

SO GOOD SO RIGHT / Brenda Russell

英国のDOME RECORDSに移籍したことを記念してオリジナル新作に先駆けて発売されたベスト盤で、現在本人制作の公認ベストとしては唯一の作品。
本人の選曲で、「LOVE LIFE」と「KISS ME WITH THE WIND」以外のアルバムから数曲ずつ選ばれています。
後に発売される移籍第一弾「BETWEEN THE SUN AND THE MOON」から新曲も1曲収録しました。
また、リマスタリングも行なわれており、古い曲はかなり良い音質で聴くことが出来ます。
ただし、ジャケットは何故か(楽曲が選ばれなかった)「LOVE LIFE」のジャケをそのまま流用しています(本人制作盤でありながら、何故このような20年も前の古い写真を再利用したのか全く謎です)。

国内盤は現在のところリリースされておらず、米国でのリリースもありません。

GREATEST HITS / Brenda Russell

EMIへの移籍後に、かつての所属会社A&Mがリリースしたベストアルバム。
A&Mからは4枚のアルバムがリリースされているが、ここでは「LOVE LIFE」からは選曲されていません。
その後に本人選曲のもとに発売されたベスト盤にも「LOVE LIFE」からは選曲されていませんから、本人は「LOVE LIFE」は好きな作品ではないのかもしれませんね。

オリジナルの米国盤は10曲入りですが、英SPECTRUM盤は2曲多い12曲入り。
米国盤は(当時としては音質の良い)リマスタリング音源なのに対して、英国盤は米国盤に比べ音質は劣ります。
購入する方は音質or曲数のどちらを取るかを考える必要がありそうです。

国内盤は92年の発売当初は米国ヴァージョンがPOLYDORよりリリースされていましたが、2006年の再発の際は英国ヴァージョンでUNIVERSAL MUSICより発売されました。
