先日ヒイヒイ言いながら作っていた英作文の課題、こんな感じに仕上がりました。先生からの評価はすでに返ってきており、1点満点中0.8点。なかなか良かったです(^^) まぁ、要するにちょっとした自慢ですね。
Soccer Ball
Watching a soccer game of the team representing England in his house, David Taylor was remembering his childhood. When a new face got into the field due to a replacement, he was glued to this rookie, and muttered with a smile, “That day has changed our whole life, didn’t you?”
In his boyhood, David loved soccer much better than anything else. He belonged to a local soccer team consisting of elementary school children, and spent not only after-school hours but also holidays practicing it four or five times a week. However, an event that spoiled his soccer life happened in his fourth annual Christmas party of his team which parents and siblings as well as team members and coaches could join. David was looking forward to the present lottery which took place at the end of the event. There were from soccer balls to ball-point pens prepared as presents. David wanted a soccer ball at any cost, which was not only his desire. When his friend had got one before, David had persistently asked him to exchange it for his Rubik’s Cube.
Such a lottery started. Names were called one after another, and at last the time had come when the names of soccer ball winner became known, without ‘David Taylor’ called. Three balls were prepared, which was as in other years. Three names were called at once, “Oliver Cook, Percy Buchanan, and ― Taylor.” There was only one ‘Taylor’ in his team, so he leaped for joy and shouted with his arms raised, “I did it!” However, he was very disappointed to hear the following voice of MC, “Oops! Sorry, David. Not you. Come on, Landon.” Landon Taylor, it was his brothers’ name. Though he wasn’t a member of the team because he was still five years old, he took part in the party. As a result, David ended up getting a pencil and an eraser as prizes for participation, so he was mortified enough to get warped at the nook of a ground for a while.
After that, David stopped devoting himself to soccer; he came to skip training, and finally, left the team. Instead, he turned that vexation upon the desk: he began to be absorbed in study, while Landon became addicted to soccer just as what his brother used to be. After entering an elementary school, Landon joined the local soccer team that his brother had left a month before, and he never gave up.
Fifteen years had passed. David had become a famous lawyer, and fortunately, Landon done a soccer player playing in Liverpool F.C., one of the most famous football club team in the world. David spoke to his brother on the television in a low voice, who was pointing a forefinger up at the sky with delight, after scoring a memorable first goal at his debut in the international “A” match, “Hey Landon, had it not been for the ball, I would not become a lawyer, and might play there together now.”
