博物館・性神の館。
栃木日光バイパス沿。
水先案内人の館長曰く、「当館は秘宝館に非ず」。
確かに、古今東西の性に纏わる資料を一堂に会し”性の博物館”を自任する本館に比し、
いわゆる「秘宝館」とはもっと娯楽志向に傾斜したものなのかもしれない。

大分の古書店を通じて購入した古写真。画自体は既知であったが、絵葉書ではなく１０センチ大のブロマイドだった。昭和３０年頃まで、別府名物の温泉に併設されていた展示施設「怪物館」において売られていた物産の模様。「怪物館」では、常設された身ノ丈約３メートルの巨大な鬼の白骨体が、見る者の度肝を抜いたことだろう。昨今は日本中どこの古書店も大手チェーンに地均しされ味気なくなってしまったと感じていたが、今なお地方ではこういった当時を偲ばせるドメスティックなものが思いがけず眠っているのかもしれない。
