雑誌・日野日出志研究の第二弾が完成。日野作品によく見られるモチーフである”蛇”と見世物小屋の蛇女について絡めた論考「赤い蛇と見世物小屋の蛇女」を掲載。

『ギニーピッグ２・血肉の華』（１９８５年・日本）。
監督の日野日出志曰く、当初これを海外へと輸出する計画は皆無であったという。それが何の因果か、世界中のファンに非常な驚きをもって迎え入れられ、今や欧米におけるカルト映画（殊にアジアン・カルト）のアイコンともいえる存在へと化した。本シリーズのDVDを米国において発掘・発売したUnearthedFilms社のＢｉｒｏ代表は僕にこう言う。「彼は今まで誰も見たことのない、しかし誰もが見たかったものを作ったんだ」。しかしながら、本国日本においては正式なDVDリリースは未だ為されてはおらず、”宮崎勤”を忌諱する人々によって為された封印が解かれる兆しもない。今後、正式なソフト化の可能性も限りなくゼロに近い。僕自身を含め、リアルタイムで「ギニーピッグ」を驚きと共感とをもって受け入れた世代は確かにいた。しかし、その世代はまるで、学校の教室において意図的に教師から回答の順番をすっ飛ばされた鬼っ子のようにその進退を絶たれ、その名を口にすることさえ憚られた。だがインターネットの普及は、天涯孤独のただの点としてしか存在していなかった「ギニーピッグ・チルドレン」の、点と点とを結びつける時代の到来を意味した。「ギニピ」を見たとき感じたあの驚きと共感とが、僕自身の偏狭な嗜癖、あるいは閉ざされたカルトという分野のみに完結せず、今や世界中に蔓延する乾涸びたヒューマニズムを飛び超え、世界で共有しうるものであることを予感させている。 (To guineapig children )

Uつべより、teafromteapot(西村美乃里)さん制作のアニメ動画です。
「作品を読んで、文章から沸き起こった イメージをアニメーションで表現」したそう。
文学とアート系のアニメーションって食い合わせいいなぁ。絵の崩し具合がよか。
いま日野日出志の『七色の毒蜘蛛』論百枚を執筆していていつの間にか
太宰の『トカトントン』に辿り着いたんだが、
Uつべ上の「自分だけ感動できないってものすごく怖い」ってコメントが現代のニッポンらしくてグー。
みんなもっと文学読め。おもろいから。
This is an animated cartoon animation of Mr. teafromteapot making.

脚本でも俳優の演技でもなく、質感の妙でもって僕がカルト映画を選ぶとしたらこの作品がベストになるだろう。『死霊の罠』(1988年・日本)。自分的には、古きよき日本美の理想を映像化した溝口健二の『雨月物語』に対するアンチテーゼとして位置付けている。これは、小学生の頃の僕に、もし等身大の皮膚感覚と現代の感性を用いて「怪談映画」を作ればこんな風になるだろうと思わせた作品である。なぜなら、『雨月物語』に出てきたような「日本美」の結晶など現実にはどこを探してもありはしないことを、子供だったとはいえ、当時の僕はすでに心の片隅で知っていたから。近年もある新人映画監督たちが、日野日出志の代表作『蔵六の奇病』の世界を、現実世界と現代に置き換えて映像化に成功したと大見得を切っていたけれど、目の前にあるこの世界の一体どこに、あの「ねむり沼」のある森を位置付けるというのか。元々、『蔵六の奇病』の世界と「ねむり沼」とは切っても切り離せないものであったはずだ。それよりも、今この時代、この場所を生きている僕にとってもっともリアルな質感といえば、冷え冷えとしたコンクリートの手触りだったり、アスファルトのごつごつとした均一な無粋だったりする。『血肉の華』にも通じるその質感がこの映画にはある。（feel of a material in Japan of ｔhe present age）
