　BBC等、イギリスメディアの見出し。
　スヌーカー選手の死を表現するセンスが光るだけに、物悲しいのです。

　イギリス・リーズ出身の天才スヌーカー選手、ポール・ハンター氏がガン再発で闘病中でしたが、10月9日夜、亡くなりました。
　私よりもずっと若く、スゴイかっこよくて、大変優れた選手でした…。

　1996〜1998年までイギリス・ロンドンで暮らした私ですが、その期間に大変好きになったのがスヌーカーでした。（ビリヤードの親分みたいなもの：詳細はコチラ：http://www.geocities.jp/snooker_osaka/index.html）

　大御所選手の皆さんを始め、ジョン・ヒギンズなど当時私ののお気に入り選手は何人もいました。テレビ中継される試合は出来得る限りみていましたし、"Snooker Scene"という雑誌も毎回購入していたほどです。

　帰国して、試合をあまり見られなくなってから情報等に疎くなっていました。
　
　が、ある日、drkurimotoさん（ http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/drkurimoto ）から『ポール・ハンターという若手の選手が良いよ！ガンで闘病中だけどね・・・』とおしえてもらいました。なので、見事克服して試合に復帰した辺りから応援していました。
　
　ポールは、非常にハンサムだけではなく、あのスティーヴン・ヘンドリーもてこずる程の大変素晴らしい技術と頭脳、粘り強さを持ち合わせた選手でした。事実、何度も優勝しているし、世界ランキングは確か、4位。（ワールドスヌーカー公式サイトでは既にポールの名前が削除されていますが。それに、ポール自身の公式サイトにもアクセスできないよー。。。）

　ジミー・ホワイトやスティーヴ・デイヴィス、ジョン・パロットといった大御所とは一味違う、優秀な若手＝ポールの魅力と試合運びを見て、スヌーカー・ファンになった方々もかなり多いと思います。


　イギリスのBBC等各サイトによると、あと5日で28歳のお誕生日だったとか。。。

　若過ぎる。

　こんなに残念な事は、ありません。『佳人薄命』とは、ポールのことなんでしょうか。
　
　彼は、最後はホスピスに入院していたとのこと。同じ病気と闘う患者さんの組織に対しての慈善活動も熱心に行っていたそうです。

　伝説になると思います。ポール・ハンターは。

　It is the title to tell us that Paul Hunter passed away.
What a good sense it is, which exactly shows the young snooker player’s tragedy.

　One of the greatest snooker players from Leeds in the UK, Paul Hunter, passed away of neuro-endocrine tumours　on 9th October.

　He was so young, very much handsome and smart and a real snooker star.

　I lived in London from 1996 to 1998. I got a big Snooker fan.

　There are many favourite players, such as John Parrot, Jimmy White, Steve Davis, John Higgins and so on.
　I used to watch those games on TV as much as I could. I also subscribed the monthly magazine, “Snooker Scene”.

　However, after having come back to Japan, it is a little bit difficult for me to watch the games and get information about snooker compared with living in London.

　One day, an acquaintance of mine, who is also keen on Snooker, told me that I should check a young player out, whose name was Paul Hunter and he had been struggling against cancer. I watched his play and started supporting him after his coming back to the snooker scene having got over it.
　
　He was not only good looking but also very smart tenacious with excellent technique, which even gave hard times to the top player, Stephen Hendry. He won the championship several times and used to be ranked the fourth place in the world.

　There must be many snooker fans who came across his play on TV or so and get involved in snooker. Paul was such an attractive player.

　According to BBC website, he would have celebrated his 28th birthday in 5 days.

　He was too young to pass away.

　How tragic the fact is. I must remember a sad old saying, Whom the gods love die young.　
　
　Just before his death, he entered a hospice. He supported an organization with his heart and soul, which is called Net Patient Foundation that is for patients suffering from the same illness, neuro-endocrine tumours.

　He will definitely become a legend in snooker scene.

　I thank him so much and pray his soul may rest in peace.
