微小化石：コノハエビ様化石
ブンデンバッハはデボン紀の最高のラーゲルシュテッテンだけあって、良く判らない化石も沢山出ます。大抵は糞石だったりするのですが…。この標本は、微小化石と呼ぶにはややおこがましいサイズですが、殻と軟体部よりなるコノハエビのような動物化石、節足動物の幼生のような化石が見られます。この手の標本は、とても保存の良いほかの化石のすぐ側に固まって保存されていたりするので、ミネラルショーでブンデンバッハなどを見る機会があれば、是非観察してみてください。

Small Fossil: Phyllocarid-like structure
Hunsruck shalr is one of supreme largerstatten in Devonian age, and odd materials can be collected such like this. This one is relatively large to call it small fossil, left specimen seems to consist of carapace and telson and right juvenile some kind of arthropod. Many small fossils are preserved just near the other larger animals in great preservation, and if you have any oppotunity to see Bundenbach fossils, please observe very carefully.

ブンデンバッハ 三葉虫コテコプス 腐敗

コテコプス：腐敗した標本
ブンデンバッハで最も一般的な三葉虫、コテコプスです。これは裏側から見た標本です。
この標本で最も特徴的なのは、某国共産党並とまでは言いませんが腐敗している事です。この標本、保存状態が良くないので見るところなしと思いきや、軟体部の一部と思しき部分まで化石化しています。
とは言え本体から分離している部分は完全に破片のような状態になっているので、水の流れの無い場所で腐敗が有る程度進んだ状態で化石化した、と考えるのが妥当ではないでしょうか。
この手の標本は、数としてはそれ程多くは無く、当方も僅かに2つ見たのみです。

Chotecops: the rotten one
This species Chotecops ferdinandi is the most common in the famous Hunsruck site. What makes this one special is its preservation, fossilized in half rotten condition. Fragments apart from the trilobite trunk are all very small and this one probably fossilized in environment with very slo current. Such specimen is relatively rare compared with those of body with few fragments.

ブンデンバッハ 三葉虫コテコプス 裏側からの視点

コテコプス：裏側から見た標本
ブンデンバッハで最も一般的な三葉虫、コテコプスです。これは裏側から見た標本です。約10cmと大型の標本、かつ保存状態も素晴らしく綺麗な標本です。裏側から複眼が見えるのはなかなか他の産地では無いのではないでしょうか？(しかも両側の複眼が見えます)。ブンデンバッハのコテコプスといえば軟体部ばかりが注目されがちですが、軟体部が保存されていない標本でも素晴らしいものがあります。

Chotecops: ventral view
This species Chotecops ferdinandi is the most common in Bundenbach site, and what you see is trilobite ventral view. Almost 10cm in length is relatively large as Chotecops, and good preservation gives the specimen beautiful structures, especially both compound eyes clearly visible. This may be a special feature of Bundenbach fossils, have you ever seen specimen with such beautiful compound eyes from ventral side? Even almost no soft tissue, a Bundenbach fossil can be a masterpiece!

ブンデンバッハ 三葉虫コテコプス 立体的な個体

コテコプス：非常に立体的に保存された標本
ブンデンバッハで最も一般的な三葉虫、コテコプスです。コテコプスは大きな標本も多いですがコイツは圧巻です。長さは8cm強と、ちょっと大きめくらいですが、横幅が大きく、何より非常に立体的に保存されています。化石表面は金属光沢をもち金色に輝いていますが、パイライトの含有率が高いのも有るでしょうが、ひょっとすると真鍮ブラシでクリーニングされた名残かも知れません。真っ黒な奇妙な母岩に金属で出来た綺麗過ぎる三葉虫が乗っかっているのを見ても、化石に詳しくない人はこれが化石だとは信じないでしょう。保存状態は非常に良好で、ひょっとすると軟体部も保存されているかもしれませんが、少なくともこの状態では判りません。頭の鼻の部分が若干窪んでいますが、これは大型の魚のバイトマークである可能性が有るようです。

Chotecops: A specimen preserved in very 3D
This species Chotecops ferdinandi is the most common in Bundenbach slate, and this one is quite impressive in its size. Its length is near 8cm, slightly larger than average, but width is also very wide and more importantly this one preserved very 3D(less compressed than other species), such 3D specimen this size is relatively rare in Bundenbach trilobite. Brightly shining surface have golod colour, this is because not only fossil is composed of Pyrite but also it may be prepped by brass brush. Some people who do not very familiar with fossils may not believe tihs golden trilobite in jet black matrix is real fossil specimen. Preservation is very good and may be also intact soft tissue just beneath the carapace, but I'm not sure. In Grabella area narrow area has been concaved, this may due to bitten by large Devonian fish.

ブンデンバッハ 三葉虫 Rhenops sp.

ブンデンバッハで2番目に産出する三葉虫ですが、1番沢山出るChotecopsに比べれば遥かに少ないです。他に、オドントチレやパラホマロノタス、レオナスピスなどが出ます。モロッコの三葉虫として定番のものはどれも出る、という印象ですが、流通量が極めて少ないのでコレクターが一般的に入手できるのはRhenopsまででしょう。この標本は、裏側から見た標本で、ごく一部にのみ軟体部らしきものが見られます。殻とは色が異なり、おそらくは有機物の残骸であろうと推測されます。

Rhenops is 2nd most common in Bundenbach, but far scarcer compared with Chotecops. Other species such like Odontochile, Parahomalonotus or Leonaspis can be produced in this site, many of their relatives are very common as Moroccan Devonian trilobites. But in Bundenbach, any trilobites except Chotecops or Rhenops are extremely hard to come by even if fragments. This specimen is from abdomen side, but most of soft tissue gone but only a portion seems to be preserved. The colour of the soft tissue in head resion is quite different from that of carapace, this is because difference of composition(that can cause different fossilization process).
