みなさんご存知の、オリエント急行殺人事件 です。
知らない単語にも出会いますが、興味を持った単語以外は、立ちどまることなく、通り過ぎました。
ペーパーブックを、読み重ねるうえで、英語単語を英語として受け取ることができるようになるでしょう。
ようやくある地点まで、到達したように感じます。
これから、乱読します。洋書の先買いをしていますので、ストックはたくさんあります。

でも、英文を読むのは、楽しいですよ。

アポロ11号の、月面着陸のお話。
July 16, 1969. Cape Kennedy, Florida.
A huge white rocket towers against the blue sky.
月へ行くのは、人類の夢？？？ アメリカ対ソビエトの宇宙戦争？？？
Then, in 1961, something happenend. President Joho F.Ken made a speech.
He told the world that America would send a man to the moon before the 1960s ended.
Going to the moon was no longer a dream. It was a goal.
Why did President Kennedy set this deadline?
The reason had to do with another country-the Soviet Union.
厳しい訓練が続きます。大統領の死を乗り越えて、計画は進行します。
月に向かった3人のAstronouts が、月面着陸に挑みます。
The spacecraft is going to divide into two parts.
Aldrin and Armstrong will head for the moon in one part-a landing craft called the Eagle.
Mike Collins will stay behind in the other part-the command module.
The command module is named Columbia for Christopher Columbus.
そして、月面の人類が立ちます。
Soon comes the most exciting moment of all. Armstrong opens the hatch and steps down.
His first words are, “That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”
He is standing on the moon.
無事、地球へ帰還。
In the years to come, human being will travel father and father into space.
They will make wonderful discoveries.
But we may find that the most perfect world in the universe is the one we know best.
The planet Earth.

本の内容は、みなさんご存知の、tut's mummy 発掘のお話。
若き王の死後、盗掘されないように配慮し、埋葬されます。
At last the fest is over. The entrance to the tomb is filled up with sｔones.
Now the tomb is hidden. Perhaps this will keep robbers away.
時が過ぎて、ブームが来ます。
Then , in the 1800s, something happens. People become interested in ancient times.
Travelers pour into Egypt. They visiｔ the temples and pyramids.
They all try to bring something back- pottery, beads, statues, even mummies !
そして黄金に輝く墳墓を発見
Soon Howard is standing inside the tomb. He is almost afraid.
The air smells sweet from ancient funeral flowers. Time seems to melt away.
He feels sa if the king were buried only moments ago.
本の終わりには次のように書かれています。
Most people feel that no one will ever find another wonderful royal tomb in Egypt.
Some do not agree. They are in the Valley of the kings today, searching.
And at least one royal tomb has never been found. The tomb of King Tut's father.

「Wonderful Alexander and the Catwings」
新たに、 Alexander が登場。
wingcat ではありません。
今回のヒーロー Alexande は、家族と暮らしています。
THE FURBY FAMILY lived in great luxury.

Alexander was the oldest kitten, the bigest, the strongest, and the loudest.

So one winter day when all the other Furbies were sleeping in a warm pile on a feather bed,
Alexander went out the cat door all by himself and set off to explore the world.
外の世界へ、・・・牛と出会います
on the other side was a field, and in the field lived some very large black-and-white stranges,
who said “Moo !” to him.
“That's a silly thing to say,” said Alexander. “You should say Mew, not moo !”
（この箇所は、笑うところなのでしょうね）
外の世界、車に引かれそうになったり、犬においかけられ木の上に逃げます
子猫にとっては、恐怖のフクロウもやってきます。
Alexander saw her beak and her terrible talons. He knew it was no use trying to scratch her nose.
But he puffed himself up as big as he could and hissed at her. “Go away !” he said fiercely.
“Scram !”
The Owl gave a low chuckle and flew off.
高いところまで登りすぎたのでしょうか、降りることができず、木の上で朝を待ちます。
As Light came into the sky, the birds began to talk softly each other. They flew about in the trees,
but kept well away from Alexander. Desolate and half-frozen, Alexander watched them and
thought, “If only I couid fly !”

He could not make himself climb down. he was afraid.
Jane との出会いの時が来ます。
何かが飛んできます、フクロウのことがあったので、怖くなり、目を閉じてしまいます。
The branch jiggled a little. Alexander opend one eye.
On the very end of the branch sat a strange, black bird.
A strange, black bird with whiskers, and four paws, and a long tail. A bird that purred.
“Ａｒｅ you a catbird ?” Alexander whispered.
The strange bird looked at him and smiled.
“Who are you ?” Alexander asked. “Me !” said the strange bird.
“My name is Alexander Furby,” Alexander said.
そんな出会いの後、いろいろのことがありました。
そして、Jane も言葉を話せるようになり、Alexander も、Catwings と仲良く暮らし始めます。
Alexander は、元の飼い主とも出会ったりします。
さて、本巻最後の場面。
“We've got to pay another visit to Mother,” said James.
“It will make her so happy when you talk to her, Jane.”
“Alexander,” said Roger very solemnly, “you are wonderful.”
“Yes !” said Jane. “He's wonderful ! ”
“I know ,” said Alexander.
