退職届け（英語例文）

ラボを移籍した際、前のラボに提出した退職届けです。
書くべき内容としては、退職日、退職するポスト、御礼、退職後の連絡先を意識して作成しました。

アプリケーションレター”悪い例文”

ラボのメールを開いたら、海外からポスドク応募のメールが来ていました。私が登録している研究関連メーリングリスト宛に、応募レターを送ってきたようです。

一読して“ダメ,　即削除!”
とゆきたいところですが、人のふり見て我がふり直そうと、応募メール（カバーレターと言います）の問題点をまとめてみました。

問題点１−誰に送っているメールかが全くわからない。
Dear Doctors,って言われても、どのdoctorのことですか？
自分が応募したいところの、教授や、ラボのトップの人宛に送るべきです。

（ポイント１−あて先をはっきりさせる）

問題点２−どんな内容の研究をしたいのかがよく分からない。
患者データの解析をしたいようなことが書いてありますが、どんな疾患の患者に興味があるのかさえ不明です。

（ポイント２−研究の目的をはっきりさせる）

問題点３−ポスドク(visiting fellow)のポストが欲しいのはよく分かったけど、“もしポストがなければ、研修生、ボランティア、見学でもいい”なんて、余計なことまで書いている。そんなことを書いたら、ポスドクとして雇って給料出してあげようという気にはなりません。もっと安上がりのボランティアどまりです。

（ポイント３−自分を安売りせず、雇用の条件(ポスト)をはっきりさせる。ただしこの時点では給料の具体的な希望額は決して書かないこと）

問題点４−応募者の過去の研究、研究の上での強みが全く分からない。
パソコン技能をアピールしているので、データ解析に自信があるようですが、
“どんな研究テーマ”に自分のパソコン技能を使いたいか、使えるかをもっとはっきりアピールしなくては。データ解析さえさせてくれるのであれば、どんな研究内容でも、どんなラボでもいいのでしょうか、という疑問が残ります。

（ポイント４−応募したラボが、自分を雇うことによって得られるメリットを具体的にアピールする）

以上を頭に入れた上で、実際のカバーレターを“悪い例として”読んで見てください。

お断りのメール例文

ラッキーなことに、複数の研究室からOKの返事をいただいても、最終的には1ヶ所に
絞らざるを得ません。
相手が真剣に考えて出して下さった返事に対して、相手の気持ちをなるべく害さずに
丁寧にお断りすることは、日本語でも難しいです。
同じ医学界で研究している身なので、思わぬところで人間関係や研究関係でつながっている
可能性もあります。一生涯無関係の人間でいられるとはいえない相手です。
雇う、雇われるの契約ではあっても、結局は人間性が大切だと思い、状況を正直にお伝えする
ことにしました。
以下のメールは、相手から”ポスドクとして来てほしい。しかし、推薦状が1通まだ来ていないので
どうなっているのか教えてほしい”というメールに対しての返事です。
この時点で既に、他のところに行くことがほぼ決まっており、かなり重要な書類もお送りしていましたので、以下のようにお断りしました。
Dear Dr. XXXXX;

I am very sorry for keeping you waiting such a long time.
After I asked my referees for sending you letters, I found out that one of them has been in very serious XXXXX condition since the XXXXXX of XXXXXX(時期） and I have been wishing and waiting for his XXXXX. I apologize for the delay of notification of this situation.

I have sent my application letters for three very attractive and interesting labs including yours. I received an offer for the postdoc position from one of them several days ago and I think I want to take this opportunity.

It is a very great honor for me that you consider my application and giving me positive e-mails. Thank you very much for everything.

その後、さらに”もし、他の研究室と正式に契約していないのなら、うちに来て欲しい”とのメールを頂きました。本当に私にはとてももったいない有難いお話だったのですが、以下のお断りのメールをお送りしました。

Unfortunately, I am very very sorry for you that I have already sent documents necessary for the procedure for working at other lab. It is difficult for me to decline the offer from other lab at this point.

I will study XXXXX at a department of XXXXX, and I’m planning to continue research in XXXXX in the future. I always look forward to reading your progressive and interesting studies of XXXXX.

推薦状の例文

留学先にApplyする際の書類で, CV(履歴書）とともに重視される推薦状の例です。とはいっても、自分で自分を推薦する文章を書くのではなく、自分の研究室のボス（大学教官）や教授に書いて下さるようにお願いします。私は3人の先生にお願いしました。皆、超多忙な方々なのですが、快く引き受けてくださいました。お願いの際に、気を利かせて、自分で雛形を作ってからお願いすると、先方も楽だと思いましたので、お１人に関してはそうしました。その雛形が以下です。

推薦者の決め方ですが、私は, １直接のボス--研究の仕事ぶり、研究室での私の性格などを御存知。
２所属科の教授--研究、臨床の仕事ぶり、科での私の性格などを御存知。
３卒業校の教授--学生時代の活動、性格などを御存知。

”よく、ここまでまあ自分を褒めちぎる文が書けるものだ”と自分でもあきれていますですが、誉め上手のアメリカ人に読んでもらうには、謙遜しすぎてはソンすると思い、思いきって書きました。この雛形を元に、実際の推薦状では、教授はさらにもっともっとお褒めの言葉を付け足してくださいました。

CV(履歴書）例

留学先探しに推薦状とともに最も重視されるという、CV(Curriculum Vitae),つまり履歴書の例です。

Applyは、郵送で出したところもあれば、メールで出したところもあります。郵送の場合は、大学の正式なレターパッドにプリントアウトして、郵便局よりEMSで送りました。また、最終的に留学先に決定したところは、メールで応募したところだったのですが、決定後、”郵送でCVを送り直してほしい”と言われました。

完成して送ってしまってから、書けばよかったなあと思ったことが２つあります。
１、専門医の資格（海外の研究には全く関係ないけど）
２、海外学会発表時に、学会から奨学金を頂いたこと（旅費、ホテル代、参加費分20万円弱を学会から奨学金としてもらったことを、書き忘れてしまいました。）
２に関しては、推薦状を書いて下さる先生に、そのことも推薦状の内容に盛り込んでくださるようにお願いしました。
